Incident Description

It has been reported that a passenger boat was attacked whilst transiting from Bakana to Degema, River State. Twelve armed men ambushed the passenger vessel which had a total of seven persons on board, including four policemen. The armed men, in two speedboats, opened fire on the passenger vessel resulting in the policemen returning fire. The passenger vessel driver and three of the policemen jumped overboard and swam to safety. The armed men attacked the fourth policeman and threw him into the river before kidnapping two civilians and escaping.
