A Respectful Reminder

We're living in a time of uncertainty and divisiveness. It's truly an unparalleled time in history and in our lifetime. Now more than ever, we have to respect and protect one another. Regardless of any ideology or beliefs, SMRBA isn't a place to share or promote them. Whether it's a seemingly clever remark during a meeting, an off-handed comment in the chat, or even the unintentional subtlety of wearing a potentially offensive or demeaning T-shirt on Zoom, this is unwanted behavior.

Our mantra of "no drama and no politics" is more important than ever before. We always want you to consider SMRBA a safe place where you're free from ridicule and judgment. We're here to promote our fellow members, showcase and grow our business, and build strong and satisfying relationships. Let's all be aware, take care, and continue to support and uplift one another.

As always, we thank you for being a member of our SMRBA family.

You don't need to be without your favorite reading material. Remember, it's the one that gets read. SO reach out to Mike and get your ad in, more and more people can see it online and you want to be seen! After all, it IS the one that gets read.

This is a great fundraiser for Paws 4 Life. With dinner, entertainment, raffles, a silent auction, and more. A fun-filled night for the whole family.

Can you believe that it's time for another First Friday? And this one is going to be special. The Bachelors will be there, strutting their stuff in preparation for the Courage Under Cancer Foundation Fundraiser. I hope you all have your tickets and are ready to see who the lucky winners are.

This is going to be so much fun, with the money going to an amazing cause. To help people with cancer who cannot afford treatments to get the care they need.

We are excited to announce that on Monday, September 28th Empowerment Systems will be reopening our office doors.  Since closing in March, we switched to a remote work format.  Although we continued to provide services remotely, our facility was closed to the public, leaving us unable to provide walk-in services.

Starting Monday, September 28th walk-in services previously provided will be available.  Appointments for AHCCCS, SNAP, and TANF can be made and completed in person, our free internet for employment services/follow up will be available, as well as various homelessness reduction efforts including help obtaining IDs, hydration, and food.  Our college interns are also returning on a limited basis and have resumed providing health and wellness education at various locations and via zoom.

Our Resource Center hours remain Monday-Friday, 9:00-4:00, and we close for lunch between the hours of 12:00 and 1:00.  We will be following safety procedures including mask requirements for employees and clients, temperature checks, hand sanitizer, social distancing, and limiting how many clients can be in the office at one time.  Please see the attached flyer for detailed information.

We look forward to continuing to provide these vital services in person.

The Rotary Club of Superstition Mountain is hosting a “People of Action” fundraiser Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Barleens in Apache Junction with a goal to raise $12,000 for the Rotary Foundation.

Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with a dinner served at 6:30 p.m. at Barleens Dinner Show, 2275 E. Old West Highway. Live entertainment is to include the Barleens “variety spectacular” show with music, comedy, impersonations and a walk down memory lane, according to a release.

SMRBA has one table currently, and SMRBA members Nancy Tossell and Nora Wiseman have stepped up and each have a table.

Money raised in Arizona and from the “People of Action” fundraiser stays in Arizona through District Grants. These grants support small-scale, short term projects. Since 2013-14 the Rotary Foundation has awarded 2,466 District Grants totaling $126.1 Million. In 2017-18, the Rotary Foundation approved 503 district grants and program awards totaling $27.4 million.
