A passenger boat underway in the Bonny River, Rivers State, Nigeria, was reportedly attacked while sailing between Port Harcourt and Bonny Island.
Closed-sources indicate that during the incident, passengers were robbed of their possessions, and two passengers were abducted.
This is the third incident of this type reported in this area this year. In the most recent incident, which occurred 17 July 2024, a Barge owned by Nigeria LNG was attacked while under tow and en route to Bonny Island. Armed perpetrators launched an assault on the barge, but the armed security team (AST) escorting the vessel successfully repelled the attack, causing the assailants to flee.
Vessels are advised to keep well clear of the area if possible and exercise extreme caution, remain vigilant, retain an enhanced local surveillance, maintain strict Anti-Piracy Watch, and apply BMP WA procedures.
