Vol. 14, July 2025

July brought exciting adventures to our three, semester-long summer study abroad programs. From safaris, surfing, and rugby matches with HIZ, to island explorations with HUF and HUG, there was something for everyone during this month. Please keep reading to see how each program spent its final month of the summer.

HIZ

Harding in Zambia

For HIZ, July was filled with new trips, difficult goodbyes, and an action-packed itinerary in Cape Town, South Africa. The group celebrated America's Independence Day in scenic Chobe National Park, where they enjoyed land and river safaris. They then trekked in Volcanoes National Park, just outside of Musanze, Rwanda, where they saw the endangered golden monkeys and visited a rural village to deepen cultural understanding and awareness. Students then wrapped up their time back in Zambia before taking the short flight to Cape Town.

There were a lot of new "firsts" this year as HIZ paraglided off the side of Signal Hill, attended a rugby game at DHL Stadium, and zip-lined the Elgin Valley. It's hard to believe that the semester is almost over, but the HIZ group is finishing on a strong note as students soak up the Mother City, beautiful Cape Town, South Africa, before heading back to the States.

HUF

Harding University in Florence

The HUF group kicked off July with a day trip to Lucca and Pisa before embarking on a week of independent travel. After reconvening at the Villa, the group spent a few days in class before setting out on their last group trip: Sicily. On Italy's southern island, HUF visited the historic theater of Taormina, the mosaics at Villa Romana del Casale, the impressive Monreale Cathedral, the capital city of Palermo, and enjoyed a night tour of the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento. Afterward, the group returned to the Villa for final exams and the final banquet before heading home or enjoying more independent travel.

HUG

Harding University in Greece

Similar to HUF, the HUG program began the month with a few days of independent travel before regrouping to take a week-long tour of Türkiye together. During this trip, they visited sites such as Ephesus, Troy, and Istanbul. Later in the month, the group visited the Greek islands of Crete and Santorini. The semester will soon conclude, with students either immediately returning home or squeezing in some more independent travel in Europe before heading back.
