Meet the NEV Team

There are 14 people in our dedicated New Eastern Villages team. They have been working on this project for a number of years and are experts in their respective fields.

In each newsletter edition we will introduce you to one of them.

Harry Alexander (and Digit the dog)

Assistant Project Manager

Harry joined the New Eastern Villages Delivery Team in September 2019.

Using his experience as a consultant, Harry has been supporting project managers in dealing with consultants, lawyers and contractors to provide the necessary infrastructure required for the NEV. In addition to this, he has been involved in facilitating the Council's climate change agenda.

In the new year, Harry will see his focus shift towards the construction of the Southern Connector Road and the Wanborough Traffic Calming scheme.

What's recently happened?

Ermin Street reconstruction

Work to realign Ermin Street between Oxford Road is progressing well and is expected to be finished by Sunday (29 November).

A number of utility works are still required, so we will reopen the old Ermin Street layout, with temporary traffic lights, while this takes place. We anticipate the new Ermin Street junction with Oxford Road to be fully open by April 2021.

Pothole repairs at White Hart

White Hart contractors Osborne have completed a set of pothole repairs on the roundabout.

This has been done to prepare for further resurfacing work due to take place in February 2021.

If you have any questions or concerns about this scheme, please feel free to contact the team via email: whitehart.junction@osborne.co.uk or wwhj@swindon.gov.uk.

Should you need it, the emergency number for White Hart junction construction work and traffic management is 07899 751807.

    What's coming up?

White Hart - A419 slip road reopening

The A419 southbound slip road at White Hart has been closed for the past seven weeks.

This has been to allow the construction of an embankment retaining wall, which will enable the slip road to be widened to four lanes.

We are pleased to announce that the retaining wall has now been fitted and the slip road will reopen, albeit with slightly narrower lanes, on Sunday (29 November).

    White Hart - drainage works

Following the reopening of the A419 southbound slip road at White Hart, drainage works will soon start on the roundabout.

This work will require lane closures and is expected to be completed in the spring. More information will be communicated about this work in the new year.

Update on other NEV improvement schemes

    Contractors appointed for other schemes

As well as work at the White Hart roundabout, improvements are also being made at Gablecross roundabout, the Oxford Road/Nythe Road junction and Piccadilly roundabout.

The Oxford Road/Nythe Road and Piccadilly roundabout schemes will be carried out by R&W Civil Engineering. They will be on site from early January 2021 and will be based on Swindon Road, near the Greenbridge roundabout.

The Gablecross scheme will be undertaken by Dyer & Butler who will also be on site from early January 2021. Their site offices will be located just off the A420.
