It’s summertime, and kids are such a blessing! They laugh freely, embrace life, and love unconditionally with open our arms.

Throughout the Bible we are reminded of God’s love for the children in our own lives. So this month we meet several children in the Bible, starting today with Josiah.

Josiah, a descendent of David, was only eight years old when he became king of Judah. Eight!

2 Kings 22: 1-2 reads: “Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. His mother’s name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah; she was from Bozkath. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.”

Succeeding his biological father King Amon, who did evil in the sight of God, Josiah was convicted to tear down the idols that had ensnared the people of Judah for more than 70 years. An incredible example of how God uses children as well, Josiah teaches us many things…

First, we learn about the influence a person can have from a very young age. Even children have enormous potential to live for God and to have great impact.

Second, Josiah lived a life fully committed and obedient to God and was blessed for it.

And Third, Josiah properly responded to God’s Word. By the time he became king, the Scriptures had long been neglected, and Josiah’s heart was burdened by the failure of his people to honor God’s Word. Josiah had Scripture read to the people and made a commitment to live by it.

2 Kings 22:19 reads, “Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people—that they would become a curse and be laid waste—and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I also have heard you, declares the Lord.”

To God Be The Glory for Josiah! Josiah was a very special king. He turned to God with all his heart, with all his soul and with all his might. This young king worked hard to bring his people back to God.

  In today's lesson, Peter informs his readers that there should be no surprise that there are trials in a Christian's life. The consolation to Christians is that suffering for Christ's sake makes one eligible for glorification with Him. Therefore, momentary suffering is no comparison to the reward awaiting those who endure until the end. The endurance of suffering in this case enables one to have joy even in spite of suffering. 

      Do we as Christians view suffering for Christ as        an opportunity to demonstrate to the world that          we can be joyous in suffering because we know        the victorious end of the story?

As we continue our study of Timothy from "Great Characters of the Bible," the Youth are learning, like Timothy, the importance of building a strong faith in Christ and learning and understanding scripture at a young age. With his commitment to spreading the gospel, Timothy was able to bring so many to Christ. With 11 Youth in attendance this past Wednesday, including one of our newest members, Bro. Roman White, and a "friend" of one of our Youth, we will continue to follow Timothy's example of talking about the goodness of God's Word and encourage other Youth to join us! As we complete our study of Timothy within the next couple of weeks, we will move on to our next character, Paul, Timothy's mentor.

The Youth Ministry meets every 2nd Wednesday In-Person and every 4th Wednesday via Zoom (Meeting ID: 867 3355 4109) at 7:00 pm. Also please check your GroupMe for our weekly updates and reminders!

Name: Kimberly Henderson Baird

Current Focus: Usher Board #2 President. My parents, Joe and Beverly, encouraged my siblings and I to participate in worship services when we were children in the Buds of Promise. I began ushering in college (approx. 1990). I couldn’t attend Young Adult Choir practices, but I knew I needed to be involved in church. So, I joined the usher board for Young Adult Day and just continued. I became president (thinking it was for a short term). I didn’t realize at the time that positions are lifetime commitments LOL. I feel I have a responsibility to be active in GOD’s House as a way of serving HIM so I will remain in this capacity until HE moves me to another position.

Career: Commonwealth’s Attorney

Why this Career?: I had wanted to be a defense attorney since I was little. I wanted to help protect the rights of those charged with crimes. TV shows did not portray prosecutors as ethical or fair. It’s a long story, but while in law school, I introduced myself to Ray Larson, who insisted I sign up for the
prosecutorial internship. After much protesting, I took the class. I started in my office in January 1996
and 29 years later, I am the boss. I have learned that not every prosecutor is how they are portrayed on TV, and my job is to protect the rights of both victims and defendants, and to set the standard for how our office will treat people in the system.

What do you want your church family to know about you?: I like to travel (but the prep and actual
traveling is not fun, so both have limited when and where I go). I like to read but have not had time (I
have been working on the same book for the past 15 years).

I also like to volunteer. My mother got me involved in volunteering and giving back to my community at
a young age. She was one of the founding members of the Roots & Heritage Festival. I began helping
her in 1989. I became the Festival Chair approximately 20 years ago (temporarily – looking for a successor ). Over the years, it has definitely become a family affair. In addition to my mother, my
husband and daughter have fully jumped in working with the festival. As hectic as the festival planning
is, we have a good time doing something good as a family for the community while working with the
wonderful volunteers who do so much to put the festival together.

Is there anything special your church can do for you? Our daughter is going to New York University to obtain her master’s degree. Please pray for her safety and for GOD’s hand of protection around her.
Please pray for me that I don’t move up there with her LOL.

What do you want your church family to know about GOD?: One of my favorite Bible verses is Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am GOD”. I have definitely learned over the years that when I am overwhelmed or stressed, I need to stop, breathe, and just wait. GOD will remind me that HE is always with me and always in control. So that helps to keep me calm and able to keep going. The same applies when things are going well, I take a moment to just thank GOD for all that HE has done for me. HE has allowed me to do and see things that I would never have dreamed. Those who know and understand have that same peace.

Hope For Mental Health

Mental illness brings shame and we think Jesus is ashamed of us too, He is NOT!

Our minds love to remind us of the past. We find ourselves looking back and focusing on our mistakes. As christians , we are challenged to look to what Christ has already done. When we see our scars, we need not be cast down because Christ has taken upon Himself the hurt, shame, pain, guilt, and sin. The power of the enemy holds no power over us because of the Precious Blood of the Lamb. We are redeemed by His overcoming power. Choose to see His scars that brings us life.

FLU

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.

RSV

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms. In older adults and adults with certain underlying conditions, RSV can cause severe infections.

COVID-19

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by staying at least 1 metre apart from others, wearing a properly fitted mask, and washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently. Get vaccinated when it’s your turn and follow local guidance.

The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols. It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, for example by coughing into a flexed elbow, and to stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.

Both COVID vaccines and Booster COVID vaccines are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding COVID vaccinations.
