We Are God's Kin-dom
On the sixth day, the triune God creates humankind. Humanity is created in relationship with all that has been created -- birds, cattle, sheep, fish, butterflies, snails, earthworms, tomatoes, zucchini, sunflowers, sequoias, aspens, mesquite trees -- humanity is made to be in relationship with all of creation!
God created humanity in the midst of the abundant life that God has just created, and gives humanity a nurturing, caregiving responsibility for creation. God makes humanity for the purpose of caring for the world that God has just created, a deep trust in humanity to care for the beautiful and wild earth.
Artist Jan Richardson describes the relationships between humanity and creation as God's Kin-dom. "'Kin-dom' denotes a world in which we recognize that we are related, that we are 'kin' in God, and work to build relationships of love, peace, and justice with all of creation". Understanding humanity as kin to each other and all creation means that we are called to live into the trust that God has given us to care for the earth, to build a relationship of justice with the earth.

Creation Caretakers
The story in Genesis chapters 7 and 8 includes several unnamed women. Imagine with me the important role these women on the ark had in caring for the living creation gathered together to survive the flood.
As you read through the story of the flood and the ark, did you imagine how much work was required in caring for the cargo of creatures? Could you picture the women working together to share the load? Could you picture how they worked to care for the people, to make sure they had a warm place to sleep, clean clothes to wear, food to eat?
Women were a critical part of the work in caring for creation through the flood. All the living things on the ark needed the care so that they would be prepared to thrive once back on dry land. Women today are also a critical part of the work of caring for creation. We do this because we are called by Christ to the work of mission.
Being in mission means that we understand we are part of God's mission in, to, and for the world. When we pray the Lord's Prayer, we pray that God's kingdom would cone on earth as in heaven. This is more than simply something our hearts desire, it is what we are called to work toward as the body of Christ. We are to be in mission to care for the earth because God created us to be in relationship with all of creation. We are called to be actively part of God's mission to all creation. The Lord's Prayer reminds us each time we say it that we are set apart by Christ to care for the earth.

Keep working on your "knit together" project, whatever you (or your group) chose to work on. You should be close to completion on this project.
When completed, please let us know what you did and where it was donated / used so that we may share. Pictures would be welcome, too.
