Taking place between the 20th and 25th of June, the Networking Dinners are an exceptional opportunity for Film and Audiovisual Professionals who will have the chance to dine in an informal ambiance with fellow industry peers, creating an opportunity for meaningful conversations and for connecting with like-minded filmmakers, film industry gatekeepers and other important industry names.

Set in the ocean-front town of Espinho, a seaside beach and surf destination in the coast of Portugal, with an incredible sunset view, is a unique opportunity to gather around the dinner table with filmmakers, industry experts, partners and the for an experience of Portuguese food, and fabulous wines.

Dinner features magnificent Portuguese cuisine provided by local chefs (including vegetarian and vegan options), accompanied by a careful selection of wines from Portugal's famous wine regions - all in an effort to give a taste of the country’s large and spectacular gastronomic offer.

This setting is perfect for informal conversations and contacts, a perfect setting to develop new connections and start the development of a new project in the film industry.

The price for the whole 6 dinners pass is 130€ (6 dinners with dessert, wine and soft drinks included) and is accessible only to FEST TALENT or FEST PRO badge holders.

The FEST Networking dinners will host 150 film professional per day and the first names confirmed for FEST 2023 are:

BRENDA CHAPMAN - First woman to direct an animated feature from a major studio ("The Prince of Egypt") & co-director of Pixar's "Brave" - Oscar for Best Animated Feature;

CAPRICE CRAWFORD - CEO of Crawford Talents, a full-service International Actors Management Agency, an international actors management agency based in Berlin;

LONE SCHERFIG - Danish writer/director with award-winning films including "Italian for Beginners," "An Education," and "Their Finest." Also directed TV series;

LUCY BROWN - Award-winning producer, director, writer & educator, co-authored "The TV Studio Production Handbook". Strong supporter of equality, diversity, and inclusion;

MELODY LONDON - Renowned film editor on "Stranger Than Paradise" & "Risk," respected film teacher, and director of the documentary on under-recognized women artists;

PETE TRAVIS - BAFTA winner for "Omagh". His film "Endgame" with William Hurt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jonny Lee Miller & Mark Strong premiered at Sundance;

TOMAS ESKILSSON - Head of FIlm Analysis of Film i Väst, has co-produced over 775 feature films, including notable works by Lars von Trier, Thomas Vinterberg, and Niels Arden Oplev.

In previous years, names like Asghar Farhadi, Béla Tarr, Gaspar Noé. Irvine Welsh, Melissa Leo, Roman Coppola, Joe Walker, Ed Lachman, Gael Garcia Bernal - among other influential experts - have shared their experiences at FEST with other film professionals.

About Espinho

Just 30 minutes by car from Porto Airport and 20 minutes from downtown Porto, Espinho is a modern city that receives thousands of national and foreign visitors throughout the year.

It has 8 km of beaches, several distinguished with Blue Flag. An immense sea surrounding the extensive sands is cut by breakwaters that make it suitable for bathing areas, but it also has waves appropriate to water sports such as surfing or bodyboarding. Therefore, the tranquility of an isolated beach is opposed to the action of another, where you can even watch a game of beach volleyball or spend some time in a lively bar.

Praia dos Pescadores is the starting point for a totally cultural gastronomic trip, where the work of Xávega Art, the proclamation of our "Vareiras” and the traditions of artisanal fishing are practiced by the sea. A little further on you will find a good restaurant. Accept our suggestion and enjoy unforgettable moments at the table with our marine flavours!

Espinho is a cheerful city designed with wide streets cut into symmetrical squares; however, beyond what you may imagine, it will be more useful to follow this advice: visit this pleasant city to judge it for yourself!

How much will I spend during my stay?

Alongside its quaint charm, one of the main advantages of Espinho is that everything is extremely affordable. Freshly brewed coffee costs as little as €0.60 in most places, and for around €1 you can enjoy a freshly baked luffy Portuguese croissant. A good lunch or dinner, including freshly grilled fish with rice or potatoes, a drink, and dessert is easy to find for under €10. As for drinks, beer costs as little as €1, and you will pay around €5 for long drinks. We do encourage that you try some local wines while you’re in Portugal, especially the bubbly and refreshing Vinho Verde!

Accommodation

As an accredited participant of FEST 2023, you will be also able to purchase accommodation in one of FEST's partner hotels and hostels through your Eventival account, benefiting from special festival prices and becoming a part of festival attendants' community, which makes the whole experience much more intense and inspirational, allowing for a more casual get-together with other participants and guests staying at the same place.
