Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
As states continue to conduct eligibility renewals following the end of the Medicaid continuous enrollment condition (Medicaid unwinding), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has published an informational bulletin and slide deck with important reminders regarding requirements for states conducing renewals for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). This information serves primarily to remind states of what they are not permitted to do under the unwinding process.
USET SPF is sharing this information with our member Tribal Nations in an effort to keep you informed of what state Medicaid offices have been told regarding Medicaid unwinding. This is particularly important given the high rate of procedural disenrollments among Tribal communities. CMS stated that it is critical for states to ensure full compliance with federal renewal requirements, and urged states relying on prohibited practices to reach out to CMS for technical assistance in correcting these.
USET SPF urges our member Tribal Nations to monitor their state for any prohibited activities. In addition, our member Tribal Nations are encouraged to reach out to USET SPF with any challenges or difficulties with state Medicaid offices, or unwinding in general.
