How are you doing? Last week, my team and I went on a retreat to the
sierras of Rocha and on our way we stopped off to check out Las
CĂĄrcavas.
To get there we
drove just over two hours from Montevideo, through Jose Ignacio, over
the amazing circular
bridge crossing the GarzĂłn lagoon and fifteen minutes later, the
caretaker opened the entry gate, and we drove through the development
down to the ocean-side clubhouse.
Las CĂĄrcavas is a
high-end beachfront real estate development including 24 two-acre
lots and sixteen luxury bungalows. It prides itself on being
sustainable and the feelâespecially as I stood on the windswept
beach, the only person in sightâwas very remote and private.
Nature lovers will
be blown away. Close by are the Laguna de Rocha (a UNESCO biosphere),
the magical wildlife
sanctuary of Cabo Polonio, and some of Uruguayâs best
and wildest beaches including the Santa Teresa national park with
its colonial fort.
