Trouble Finding Employees? - You Are Not Alone
A record-breaking 4.3 million Americans quit their jobs in August across an array of industries according to a report released on October 12 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In Grundy County, the current unemployment rate is 6.1% compared to 9.6% at the same time last year and the labor force has shrunk 4% since pre-pandemic levels.
Nationwide, there are 7.7 million people who remain unemployed and are not jumping at the nearly 10.4 million job openings. Experts believe there are two factors causing this: better pay and fear of COVID. The numbers also show that expanded unemployment insurance was not a significant factor in keeping people out of work.
On a positive note, economists predict this is not a permanent change but say it is clear the pandemic continues to be a defining factor in the job market's recovery.
