Dear Reader ,
As the brutal Russian war against Ukraine continues, Russia breaches yet another principle of international law by illegally proclaiming the annexation of four Ukrainian regions following sham referenda denounced internationally. Besides strongly condemning this annexation, which marks a dangerous escalation in the war, the EaP CSF continues to call on the international community to support Ukraine and its people with military, financial and humanitarian aid, until the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of the country are fully restored.
The EaP CSF strongly condemns the sham “referenda”, organised by Russia in the Ukrainian oblasts of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia between September 23 – 27, and calls on the international community to reject the outcomes of the so-called vote and continue to impose additional swift and more severe sanctions on Russia.
In the context of the war and its consequences in the field of security and energy security, Ana-Otilia Nuțu (EaP CSF Steering Committee Co-Chair and Energy Policy Analyst) argues that the EU should consider capping Russian gas prices in order to stabilise the energy markets and limit the Kremlin’s ability to finance the war in Ukraine.
In other news, the democratic political and civil groups of the Republic of Armenia expressed their unconditional support for the sovereignty and democracy of Armenia as non-negotiable values, and called on Armenian authorities to swiftly begin the process of derussification, reducing Russian influence on the country. Armenian civil society also called for an enhanced, stronger partnership with the West.
Following the Regranting Call to Members, eleven member organisations will receive funding to support their projects, aimed at mitigating the impacts of the war in Ukraine.
The team of EaP CSF Secretariat is growing and this September, we warmly welcomed Juris Lavrikovs as Communications Manager and Alexandra Sabou as Advocacy and EaP Index Manager!
Yours,
EaP CSF Secretariat
