"For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God [hath been] with thee; thou hast lacked nothing."  Deuteronomy 2:7 KJV

Throughout this month of November we’re highlighting people in the Bible who stopped to thank God for His many blessings.

1. Ten Lepers

Ten lepers came to Jesus and asked him to heal them. Jesus sent them to the priests, and they were all healed along the way. Only one of the ten healed returned to thank Jesus, and that person was not even a Jew. He was a Samaritan who was considered to be a foreigner in Israel’s sight:

Luke 17:15-19 says, Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks…

2. Paul

Paul gave thanks to God for the believers in Philippi because of their partnership with him in the gospel:

In Philippians 1:3-5 Paul says, “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.”

3. Elizabeth

Before becoming pregnant with John the Baptist, Elizabeth was barren and long beyond child-bearing age. Elizabeth was thankful that God took away her shame among the people of Israel:

Luke 1:24-25 states “After these days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and for five months she kept herself hidden, saying, “Thus the Lord has done for me in the days when he looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”

Forever grateful, To God Be The Glory for another opportunity for each and every one of us to thank the Lord for His goodness, His grace and His loving mercy!

This Sunday we celebrated our 40 Year Christian Group Anniversary!

Our morning worship service honored Christians who have been in church 40 years or more and featured a special program presided over by the group’s President, Sis Linda Gates.

Sis. Gates led the congregation in special music (“Hold To God’s Unchanging Hand” and “‘Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus”).

Pleasant Green’s choir also rendered the selection (“This Means War”).

Trustee Thomas Peoples opened the program with prayer.

Sis. Nieta Wigginton shared a heartfelt welcome to all.

Members who are 80 and older were presented a special gift from the group.

Rev. Robert P. Gates Sr. paid tribute to 40 year Christian members who have passed away during the last four years and sang a stirring rendition of “Never Grow Old”.

Five new members, (Sis. Charlotte McClellen, Sis. Sharon Scarborough, Bro. Donald Scarborough, Bro. Craig Brooks and remote member, Sis. Deborah Payne) were inducted into the group by Sis. Linda Gates, Sis. Liz Brooks and Sis. Lisa Leath.

Our own Pastor Calvin P. Shears brought the spirit filled morning message. His sermon was entitled, “The Lazarus Conspiracy” from the scripture passage, John 12:9-10 and was encouraging and uplifting to all.

Following morning service, the 40 Year Christians hosted a delicious reception.

To God Be the Glory for a Spirit filled morning of appreciation and encouragement to our 40 Year Christian Group!

For anyone who has not yet been vaccinated, please don't wait - get your first COVID-19 vaccine by same-day appointment every Monday-Thursday in our Public Health Clinic at 650 Newtown Pike. You can also help slow the spread of COVID-19 by:

• Avoiding close contact with people who are sick, especially those with COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, muscle/body aches, loss of taste/smell, nausea, etc.);
• Covering coughs and sneezes;
• Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth;
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
