As we think about how to support students' healing and wellbeing, I encourage you to think about very short rituals like this daily dedication routine. You will love the article and the video at the end. "As Matthew Kay has written, rituals like this absorb a tiny fraction of the lesson while fostering 'an environment of humility and genuine interest in each other’s lives and passion.' And it is culturally sustaining and student-centered in that students get to take the lead in honoring and celebrating their own diverse identities," writes Henry Seton. Some short routines to consider that will support students' healing and wellbeing (resources linked for each in this doc): daily dedication, check in circle, movement, meditation or mindfulness, play and music, art, doodling, journaling, gratitude writing or funny story writing. If you are a teacher, you can consider using one or a few of these routines each day or do specific ones on specific days of the week. If you are a school leader, think about ways that you can encourage teacher teams to support one another in deciding who could do which routines so that students get access to different ones throughout a day (and don't get the same ones repeated in different classes).
