We're back this week, ready to tackle Labor Day weekend and the return to summer temperatures, at least through Monday, here in the Highlands. And then maybe, just maybe, some temperatures in the 70s. We'll take it!

We will be off again next week as our first ever Women in the Big Woods event kicks off on Friday at French Creek State Park. I'll be venturing east on Thursday to help get things set up and then we should be able to get back on track after that!

In the meantime, here's a stunner of a panorama from the Lehigh Gorge Overlook. Photographer Beth (on the private Hiking and Backpacking PA Book of Faces) notes that the overlook trail is worth the effort. I'll say!

We got to chat with the women of the PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship gift shop at Leonard Harrison State Park. The Foundation is a partner with the PA Wilds in their "Round Up" program.

Donations from the program are held by the Foundation to support projects in the PA Wilds area. The most recent project is a series of nine color correcting scenic viewers, two of which are available to users of the Pine Creek area, one at Leonard Harrison and the other at Colton Point These viewers are pretty interesting. The vendor's website says:

"... [S]pecially-adapted SeeCoast scenic viewers enable those with color blindness to more fully experience the colorful beauty of nature at state parks, scenic overlooks, wildlife refuges and other locations. While people with normal color vision see more than one million hues and colors, the 350 million people in the world with color blindness only see an estimated 10% of them. As a result, their world view is less vibrant and dull and some colors appear muddled or indistinguishable."

I know. Trivia is on hiatus. But this question was too good to pass up!

The Point State Park Fountain was dedicated on August 30, 1974 BUT was actually turned on for the first time one month earlier on July 23, 1974. Why?
