The 2023-24 school year marks a milestone in the history of ICA Cristo Rey - we celebrate 140 years of educating the young women of San Francisco and 14 years since joining the Cristo Rey Network - 39 career focused, college preparatory schools across 24 states that enroll 12,300+ students nationwide.

Join us in the first national Giving Day on May 1, 2024 dedicated to the Cristo Rey movement! Inspired by College Decision Day and the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, we invite new and longstanding friends to animate our shared mission by giving generously during the 24 hours of this Giving Day. In the days leading up to May 1, we will be sharing the incredible accomplishments of the Class of 2024 and their journeys to college.

Paving My Way

Yorkabiel D. ‘24 has been awarded a prestigious full-tuition scholarship to St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota through the Posse Foundation. The Posse Foundation identifies diverse groups of student leaders from urban high schools, sending them in “posses” to top colleges and universities nationwide. In addition to financial support, Posse Scholars also benefit from mentorship, leadership development, and a supportive network throughout their college experience. This comprehensive support is aimed at helping Posse Scholars succeed academically and become leaders on their campuses and in their communities. Posse Scholars graduate at a rate of 90 percent and earn Bachelor’s degrees at rates far higher than the overall 6-year graduation rate of 64%

Which schools did you get accepted to?

St. Olaf College, Nazareth University, UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis, University of Puget Sound, CSU Long Beach, CSU Bakersfield, and SF State University.

What are you hoping to study in college? Please share any and all majors you applied for.

I am happy to say that I’ll be studying nursing through St. Olaf College’s direct admission Nursing Program in Northfield, MN. I am excited because I will be studying what I am passionate about at a college I love, with people I care about!

How did ICA help you with your college application process?

One way ICA has helped with my college application is when our college counselors nominated me for the Posse scholarship. I’m grateful to have gotten it because it is a scholarship that will pay my college tuition for four years.

How did your CWS experience influence or aid in your college application process?

Working at Capital Group has given me the resources and skills I need to thrive in my chosen career. From simple things like having someone who I can go to for advice to being connected with professional opportunities to take part in.

What has the college application process taught you?

College application season is not a joke and the stress is very much real. This process taught me that it does not do any good when you compare yourself with other people you believe are somehow better than you because of their GPA, extracurricular activities, etc. No matter what other people’s journeys are, always stay true to yourself and your experience, especially when it comes to your applications.
