Hello , welcome to your October update!

Can you believe it's Fall already? If you love this season and have already decorated with autumn decor, you're going to love the great programs and events we have planned! Grab a pumpkin spiced latte, get cozy, and get ready to see what's brewing at the Palm Harbor Library!

What's New at the Palm Harbor Library?

So many of you shared heartwarming messages about our library and how it has comforted you during these stressful times. You've also shared some ideas and pointed out what we can improve on. Our library director, Gene Coppola, addresses some of these topics in his monthly column.  Check it out HERE.

Have you always wanted to write a novel but needed the right motivation and support? Well, we have the 'write' stuff to get you started!

Are you ready to conquer NaNoWriMo this year?

Welcome to Palm Harbor Library's Writing Club!
Because of the nature of the world right now, all Come Write In programs are being held virtually.

Join us and earn badges - which earn you physical prizes!

NaNoWriMo stands for National November Writing Month, and is a yearly event that motivates writers from all over the world to write 50,000 words. Each year on November 1st, hundreds of thousands of people begin writing, determined to reach this word count by the end of the month. To participate in this event, you don't need to have any prior writing experience or already be a skilled writer. You just need a story in your heart, a desire to share your words with the world (or keep them private, if you wish!) and the determination to get going!

As supporters of creativity, imagination, and literacy, we are thrilled to host a Virtual Write In for NaNoWriMo this year. Beginning this October, you can register to take part in our NaNoWriMo program, where we will help you prep, plan, and write your next masterpiece.

Please register for this event HERE.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

From October 1st to October 31st, piggy banks will be set up at our front desks. Please consider making a donation as we support the fight against breast cancer. Every donation we receive will be given to the American Cancer Society.

Lisa Leary's gone missing, and we have until Halloween to find her. Join fellow teens to hear from Lisa, piece together clues, and find out what happened.
This is an ARG - Alternate Reality Game - designed for teens (AGES 13-18). Contents may be intense and scary, but will be entirely fictional. User discretion is advised.
Registration opens October 1st. You must include an email to participate. The first piece of information will be emailed on October 17th. Please register HERE.

Costume Swap Event

We are excited to be able to offer our annual Halloween Costume Swap! However you're celebrating this year, we are working hard to ensure that this ongoing event is safe and special for our families. Bring new or gently used costumes to the Children's Room to swap for a different one (infant - teen sized). Don't have one to swap? Then consider making a $5 per costume donation to the Youth Services Department. Donations benefit children’s programming at the Palm Harbor Library. Limit one costume per child. Costumes subject to staff approval; all donations will be laundered before availability.

Take a craft and make something spooktacular!

As always, we'll have some terrific Take and Make crafts available each week. Stop by the Children's Department and pick up your child's packet while supplies last.

Camp Half-Blood is the gods' new initiative to make sure half-bloods are keeping up with training during social distancing! Registration is now open. Join us on November 20 at 5:30 PM for a virtual night of arts, crafts, and combat practice (and maybe a monster or two!) REGISTER HERE.

Adult Take & Make Kits

We have some cool Take and Make kits for adults too! These kits are very popular, so make sure to pick up yours ASAP!

Our newest Staff Picks are in! Check out the following recommendations and find them in our library collection!

"I am a believer that color affects people's moods."-Lilly Pulitzer

We are always updating and brightening our library, and our recent effort is these beautiful, colored doors.  From blues to hot pinks, our open areas transition from one lovely shade to another. We hope you love these vibrant colors as much as we do. If you haven't been inside our library recently, stop by and check them out for yourself!

PhiLs Book Club Meeting

PhiLs Book Club will meet on zoom October 12th at 11 AM Eastern on Zoom. This link will give you access the meeting.

Celebrating Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

The Palm Harbor Library celebrates our Hispanic Heritage staff. Maria, one of our Children's Library Assistants, shares a few thoughts about her heritage and how it enriches her life and workplace.

"I loved reading growing up, but the heroes in the books I love didn’t look like me or come from families like mine.

I think the biggest way my heritage has influenced me professionally is that I’m always trying to find new ways to make sure our collections and displays feature protagonists as diverse and proudly different as the world around us. I want kids from diverse backgrounds to know they can be heroes too. And I want people from marginalized backgrounds to feel welcome and celebrated at our library.

I also have really good taste in food and think almost any dish needs a little more garlic. And I’d rather have coquito over egg nog any day."
