Today we're going to continue with Step #2:

Gathering Homeschool Preschool Resources

After choosing a couple of basic workbooks to use as our foundation (more on that in the previous e-mail!), I like to brainstorm about what kinds of hands-on activities my child would enjoy.

Does your child love board books? Puzzles? Do you own any educational toys/games that they especially like? Is your little one artistic? Musical? Consider these kinds of questions and then tailor your activities to their interests.

Another beautiful thing about homeschooling is that you can plan learning activities specifically FOR your child, so don’t hesitate to do just that! Doing so guarantees they will enjoy learning with you, which is most definitely the number one goal - especially at this stage!

Where do I find my resources? Honestly, most of my educational supplies/toys have come from yard sales, thrift stores, and consignment sales! You can even find great resources at the dollar store/in the dollar spot! I am constantly on the look-out for preschool/elementary resources that I can use now and in the coming years!

I'm sure we've all met those teachers who save every paper towel roll and baby food jar just in case they might need them for an upcoming project or activity. That's not what I'm talking about here. I'm referring to creating a collection of quality resources that are in great condition - items you KNOW will be great for learning at home with your little ones.

I score deals on these kinds of things all the time! My eyes are always open and I'm always thinking ahead, and with this mindset, I promise you will not have to spend a lot of money to find great resources for your little ones!

Psst...I typically encourage friends to stay away from most teacher stores as they tend to be overpriced. With a little creativity and resourcefulness, you can find AWESOME supplies elsewhere for a lot less money. In fact, I would suggest you start by going through your house. You probably already have great hands-on activities right there within the walls of your home: Check your playroom...check your art cabinet...check your game closet...check your book shelf...check the toy box in your child's room. You will be amazed what you will find!
