So, In this very first Spark Stories email, I wanted to share with you a little of what motivates me to always push this organisation forward.
I have just finished reading All the Lonely People by Mike Gayle.
An uplifting and inspiring story of how Hubert Bird, despite experiencing poverty, racism, bereavement and loss found a second chance of love, reconnected with old friends and made a whole new group of them which led to inspiring a community to end loneliness which he was all to familiar with.
All this positivity and hope was simply sparked by a knock on the door by a young, single mum, his new neighbour, alone in a new town, desperately looking to make connections of her own.
"Extraordinary things can happen to ordinary people like you and me, but only if we open ourselves up enough to let them"
This quote from the book really resonates with me.
Often we are anxious to take a chance and stay in our comfort zones. But what opportunities await if we step out and make that first connection?
That's what our organisation exists to support.
We understand how hard it can be, especially after the pandemic restrictions to walk through the doors of a neighbourhood centre like Spark.
In fact, many of us have been in a similar position.
I certainly was when after a period of anxiety and depression I walked into a local woman's group. Nervous and unsure, not wanting to speak I was welcomed and felt safe. I went back the following week.
Little did I know it, but walking through those doors was the first step to the job I have today.
It is through the support of our volunteers and funders that we are able to provide the Spark to ignite the connections that make our community a happier place.
To meet each other, listen and understand each other's struggles, support one another through the power of friendship. Maybe even learn something new along the way.
I feel so passionately about this organisation and the brilliant work we do within our community.
I would like to invite you to partner with us. Invest in our future and that of the Craigshill community? Reply to this email and let's set up a time to talk about how you could support us in 2022.
Warmest,
