Boost excitement for your audience with this one thing

It started with a simple text on a Monday:

“I’m taking this Friday off and I need something to celebrate.”

The friend text thread was a fluff with various ideas…What could one celebrate on the last day of March?

Friend 1: “What about the Spring Equinox?”

Me: “Nah, March is the snowiest month in Colorado. Not feelin’ it.”

Friend 2: “Who’s birthday is coming up?”

Friend 3: “We already have a party next month for Jeanie.”

Me: “Can we just have an excuse to eat cake? How about…Cake Day?”

Cake Day was born. 🎂

My friends and I could have simply gathered for a Friday evening hang.

But no, we were celebrating Cake Day, dammit! 

And we had 4 days to prepare.

Suz grabbed decorations and rainbow-themed plates from the dollar store.

Andi, with the most couches, hosted the party.

Lily brought her award-winning (in my mind) Spinach Artichoke Dip.

Me? I made gluten-free Funfetti cake with pink and purple unicorn sprinkles. 🧁

Want proof?

It could have been just any other Friday evening.

But we gave it a name. We gave it purpose. We gave it a CTA.

“Let’s hang on Friday.” became ➡️ ➡️  “Let’s celebrate Cake Day!”

And, because I’m a copywriter, Cake Day had to have a tagline.

Before we knew it, I had friends texting me on Friday morning. “Happy Cake Day!” “I hope you have an amazing Cake Day!” “How was Cake Day?”

The copywriting lesson in this?

When you give your services a compelling name, you instantly boost your client’s excitement about your offer and your credibility in one fell swoop. Bah-da-bing.

When I told other friends about Cake Day, they thought it was a legit holiday. (It’s not!)

When we gave it a tagline, it felt even more special. (And we actually got a banner!)

I took this Make-It-A-Cake-Day route when I was writing the service page for my newest 1:1 offer, VIP Copy Intensives.

I could have called it “1:1 Copy Coaching & Whatever Else You Need.”

But what does that even tell you? Does it make you curious to learn more? Probably not.

Instead, I wanted you to get a gist, with a quick skim, if you wanted to learn more.

Let’s break down the name → VIP Copy Intensives

  • VIP - Embrace those only child vibes; exclusive access to me, catered to whatever you need.
  • Copy - If it’s words for your biz, I’m in. 
  • Intensives - Let's break a sweat; hyper-focus on a copy project for a specific time. 

Then I added a little more…

A succinct, clear description:

VIP Copy Intensives are a personalized 1:1 copy coaching experience to help you clarify your message, uplevel your copy, and (finally) get those big ideas on paper.

I gave it a tagline:

Like a copywriter in your back pocket.

Topped with juicy snippets throughout to reiterate the benefits:

VIP Copy Intensives are the best of all worlds – copy coaching, copy editing, live feedback, templates, and messaging magic.

Does what you’re selling have a clear, compelling name?

Does the tagline or description highlight the benefits and results your clients crave?

If you’re offering packages, does each tier have an appealing name?

If you’re offering a course, does the copy make your ideal clients eager to keep scrolling?

For Cake's sake, I hope so.

The morning after Cake Day, I ate a leftover piece of Funfetti cake w/ extra frosting while drinking my tea. Breakfast of champions.

The sweetness of the frosting coupled with the bitterness of my Earl Grey was hea-ven-ly.

Cake Day was over, but a tradition started – with just a name, a banner, and pink unicorn sprinkles. 🦄
