"Drumroll please" Welcome, everybody to the 2021 MD awards! 🏆🎉
This is going to be an exciting one because this is our first-ever awards issue! Now let's get into it.
1. Event of The Year 📆
My event of the year is hands-down El Salvador making Bitcoin legal tender and adopting the Bitcoin Standard
In the span of a decade, Bitcoin managed to grow from an idea to being adopted by a sovereign nation-state. Imagine where we'll be in another decade
I think we'll look back and see that this was a pivotal moment in history and that's why this is my pick for the event of the year
2. Best Tweet 🐣
So the story goes like this: there was this news article quoting the director of United Nations as saying that 2% of Elon's wealth ($6B) could solve world hunger and Elon's response to it was absolutely GOLDEN!
Instead, the WFP (World Food Programme) started a new thread and tweeted a link to a 1000 words executive summary. Total miss!
This tweet totally made Elon look great and deserve my vote for best tweet!
2021 has been such an exhausting year that when Friday rolls around, all I can think about is literally Daniel Craig saying "Ladies and Gentlemen, the weekend"
Event of the year: GameStop Short Squeeze. A subreddit managed to coalesce and organize to make trades that moved the market against institutions in a meaningful way and broke several institutions along the way. It shows that retail has power, retail can organize, retail can act as a stronger force
And that's it, everybody! These are this year's MD awards for "One Thing". Stay tuned for Wednesday and Friday's segments to find out who will be their winners!
Now it's your turn to pick. Who is your winner for Segment of The Year? 😏
