The sun shone, the wind did its ‘usual’ (a northerly and a southerly that faced off at each other right at the Friday finish line), and our ABD regatta basked in a glorious weekend of settled south westerly weather. For those of you who were not able to enjoy some time out with the fleet there is a wealth of imagery and video to be enjoyed at our website, courtesy of our official photographer, Roger Mills https://www.hummingbirdvideophoto.com/
And then there are the beautiful videos taken by Roger Mills on YouTube. Roger especially focuses on the A Division gaffers. Is this the first time for many years that eight first division gaff rig boats lined up on the start line on the Waitemata Harbour? We can all be proud of such a strong visual statement of the value we are placing in preserving and enjoying our historic vessels. Results are on our website.
Kennedy Bay Race
Beautiful weather greeted Competitors who enjoyed a lovely 8 to 10 SW for most of the race…Kites, Balloons or Gennakers were the order of the day and were carried by most for almost the entire race!
The big gaffers soon pulled ahead with Rawhiti taking line in the A Classic division. Many thanks are due to Lewis family for their gracious hosting of the onshore activities and prizing giving. The new barbecue facility and band were just awesome! Looking forward to another event next year!
