NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

AN ENTERTAINING MIX of FREE and BARGAIN BOOKS for you.

November the fifth is Guy Fawkes night, bonfires consuming the guy, baked potatoes, roast chestnuts, parkin pigs and sticky gingerbread to be enjoyed as we watch lovely noisy fireworks. Alas November is spring in New Zealand and with the radical changes in our climate we no longer have our gentle spring rains. We get weather bombs, a month's rain in 10 hours, which means floods and disasters followed by drought. There's a real danger of fires, we've had one bad one already. Fireworks are being restricted to official displays. Shame ours don't reach the astounding oohs and aahs of the astonishing Japanese, Taiwanese and Korean displays, but I can't see our Health and Safety regulations allowing fireworks to be held as they do in Japan. Those displays are incredible as my photo shows. Wish I could replicate the noise and gunpowder smell for you.

A special cheer here for my Writer's Choice colleague who has just released his latest historical novel. It's a mid 20thC historical mystery and it's a great read. G.J.'s other two novels both won the San Diego Historical Fiction Award.
