On September 15th, Bryan hit the road again. He traveled with Ron Hemsworth to two different state pastors’ meetings (in Minnesota and Wisconsin.) Both conferences were a good opportunity to get to know the pastors in the area and share more about Missionary Acres.
Bryan will be attending one more conference in Nebraska before coming home on the 26th. This trip had two close calls while on the road. Bryan was almost hit by another car near Saint Louis, and drove between two deer crossing the highway in Wisconsin. Thankfully God protected him and kept him safe in both cases. Psalm 46:1 comes to mind:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Bryan will be home for one day before the whole family will be heading up to Idaho and Washington for a family wedding, and a church meeting. Then, at the end of October, we will be heading to Pennsylvania for a missions conference. Please pray that we have safety on the road during these trips as well.
Tanner Family Update
While Bryan is away, Lisa and the kids are working hard on homeschooling. Also since their insurance finally got approved we’ve been getting some of the kids in to establish care. This past week, Brynna, Owen, and little Ezra went to the doctor. An x-ray showed that Brynna’s arm is continuing to heal well. She can begin bearing weight on her arm, which she is thrilled about. Ezra’s checkup also went well, and though he’s still on the small side, he is reaching all of the milestones as expected. And praise God, the doctor was willing to write prescriptions for Owen while we wait for the neurologist referral to go through. Thankfully, the insurance has been working to expedite their approval, and at this point we have three of his four medications refilled. We are praying that we’d have his final one before we head to Washington.
Missionary Acres Update
A lot is going on at Missionary Acres: we currently have one new home that needs building, two major remodeling projects, and one minor design project.
COVID-19 has been devastating to the projects at Missionary Acres. I have heard the work at Missionary Acres described as a three-legged stool. We need residents (or there wouldn’t be a need for our ministry), we need donors (all of the staff raises their support, and many building supplies come from donations), and we need volunteers. Currently, two other families are serving as staff at Missionary Acres. Although our family moved to the property in July, we are still focused primarily on finishing deputation. Thus, we are not available to serve on-site as much as we would like or as much as we’re needed.
Typically, Missionary Acres sees about eight to ten volunteer groups a year. Last year, twelve groups were scheduled, which meant 2020 should have been a year with many volunteers on-site to help complete the many projects that needed worked on. But when COVID-19 hit, nearly all of the groups canceled. Still, we praise God that 2021 has been better: we had a couple come down for a month in March, and a teen group visited for a week in July. These folks were such a blessing to have, but we need a lot more help here.
Would you please join with us and pray that God will send volunteers to Missionary Acres? We have a lot of work that needs completing, and we simply don’t have enough staff on site to get it all done in a timely manner.
Current Project Updates
The new construction project still needs some blockwork and the crawl space slab poured. Once that is complete, we hope to start working on the floor and framing of the house. Praise God, most of the dimension lumber was already donated.
Another praise is that one of the future residents was also a professional painter on the side while in ministry. He was able to come to Missionary Aces for a few days recently and helped paint his house.
Another remodel planned for a new resident will be nearly a complete gut on the main floor. That house also has a completed basement, which could present some challenges if we relocate any plumbing. This project has not been started yet.
The last house that needs a significant remodeling is our own future home. Currently, we are living in a single-wide trailer with a “bunk room” built on one side. It’s definitely cramped, especially with the weather cooling down and everyone spending more time inside, so we’re looking forward to eventually moving to the other home. I will send out some more information on this in the coming weeks. But for now, let’s say we will need to complete a larger-than-expected remodel before moving into our home.
The homes on site were all built for retired couples, and there has not been a large family at Missionary Acres for a good number of years. The house we’re going to move into is currently a two-bedroom home. There’s a space off the living room that we’re going to turn into a small bedroom for Owen, and we’re planning on converting the garage into living space with a bedroom, bathroom, and office. We’re also praying about expanding the living room at the front of the house to make sure we’ll all still fit when the kids grow and we have several teenagers in the home. But this will require some new construction, and as I said, more on that later.
“But my God shall supply all your need
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

For wisdom as we seek new doctors in the area, especially for Owen, who has unique medical challenges and needs to see several specialists.
For more church meetings.
That our family would grow closer to God and continue to grow spiritually as we adjust to being on the field and continue the last bits of deputation.
For salvation for our children who are not yet saved.
That God would raise our support level to 100%. We are currently at 83.8%. We need to raise $943 per month.
For continued safety on the roads.
For continued health for our family.
