It's designed by the incredible artist (and now ALSO personal friend) James Flames.
All this is the product of a rising cultural moment that I feel extremely honored to be part of.
But before I talk about that, go get the EP!
This cultural moment is orbiting around the work and thought of my friend Jonathan Pageau, icon carver and (per Jordan Peterson) Old Testament-style prophet :) And he's about to rock our world as well!
He and I (and a few other fantastic people) have been working behind the scenes on launching a new venture, Symbolic World Press.
The first project of this press is a series of classic fairy tales, retold to highlight their original symbolic depth. This is not Shrek or your usual deconstruction of fairy tales. This is something brand new, and yet so, so ancient.
And we're launching the first book on Tuesday as a very ambitious and exciting Kickstarter.
Check out the preview page here.
I'll tell you more about this project next week when it launches. But there are a few very, very cool early bird rewards that you don't want to miss. So sign up to be notified.
All this is very interesting to consider, especially as Paul Kingsnorth, another friend and fellow Pageau-ite, is actually saying that the West must die for a better world to flourish.
Well, if the death of the West means music by Dirt Poor Robins and books by Jonathan Pageau, then bring it on!
Author Update
I've just finished my first completely work of fiction of 2023. It's a short story that will also become the prelude or first chapter to a larger sci fi novel that I'm very excited about. And those who might be worried about me leaving the fairy tale and fantasy space, I'm not, not really.
This is like science fantasy more than hard sci fi, though it does look at some current cultural trends with a very careful eye.
If you'd like to know more, I'm doing a livestream for my patrons at 4 pm Eastern today. If you miss it, the livestream will still be available as a replay, but most likely it will stay only in Patreon-land for now.
So maybe it's time for you to join us there?
In any case, thanks, as always, for coming along with me for my writerly adventures!
~Nicky
