HAPPY NEW YEAR! πŸŽ‰πŸΎ

Can you believe itβ€”a new year already! 😳

2020 ~ when I'm pretty sure I remember us all thinking the world was going to end on the last day of 1999. (Well, I didn't . . . I was too busy taking Prince's advice to party like it was 1999. πŸ₯³πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ€ Or singing along with the sentiment, anyway.πŸ˜‰) Madame Mommy Dearest says that the older one gets, the faster the days/weeks/months/years pass by . . . and I think she must be right, because I can't figure out where the last year went.πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Of course, that is neither here nor there; the point is, a New Year is upon us, and we should try to make it the best yet!🀩

  • In Roman Numerals, the year 2020 is written "MMXX" (I think I'll use that on checks and stuff, just to be fancy and throw people into a tizzy.πŸ˜‰)
  • January 10th was the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the Treaty of Versailles, which officially ended World War One.πŸ•ŠοΈ
  • September 6th will mark 400 years since the sailing of the Mayflower.β›΅
  • On November 28th, it will be 500 years since Ferdinand Magellan crossed the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean through what is now known as the Strait of Magellan.β›΅πŸŒŽ
  • December will mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of legendary German composer Ludwig van Beethoven.🎹🎢
  • Despite popular belief, "perfect" vision is not 20/20, but actually 15/15.πŸ€“
  • According the the Chinese Zodiac, 2020 is the "Year of the Metal Rat."πŸ€  (FYI, Yours Truly is a Rat . . . and the Lunar New Year begins on January 25th.🎊)
The Year of the Metal Rat will be strong, prosperous, & lucky for nearly all signs of the Chinese Zodiac!

Just before Thanksgiving, Madame Mommy Dearest got an "order" for 30 homemade dishcloths. There was only one problem: she'd just had carpal tunnel surgery.😲 So what did she do? Why, she turned to Darling Daughter Dearest, of course! πŸ€—

Naturally, I was happy to help. There was only one problem:  I FORGOT HOW TO KNIT! I couldn't believe it.  Sure, I hadn't done much knitting since my "Chicks with Sticks" trilogy came out, but still . . . how could I have forgotten how to knit?! πŸ˜±

It took a lot of false starts and a few "practice" dishcloths before I managed to churn out one that met MMD's exacting standards, but I finally got my mojo back!πŸ˜€

And then, once I started, I just kept going and going and going and going... Like the Energizer Bunny with yarn!πŸ‡ I knit those 30 red/green/white Christmas-pattern dishcloths in record time. Then I knit a few more. Then I decided to see if I remembered how to crochet. At first, I didn't, and there were some trial runs of that, too.😝 But eventually it came back to me, and I started whipping out crochet dishcloths, too. I even created my own pattern that MMD says she likes more than her own.😎

Of course, all of this knitting and crochet has created one final problem:  I can't stop!  I don't want to stop.  All I want to do is knit, knit, knit . . . crochet, crochet, crochet . . . buy more yarn and start over again. πŸ§Ά

And let me tell youβ€”it isn't easy to knit or crochet and write at the same time. πŸ™„

So how about you . . . ?

Are you a crafty person? Do you knit, crochet, quilt, sew, paint...other or all of the above?

Legit me amidst all my handmade dishcloth shame.🧢😬 #sorrynotsorry

#1 New York Times Bestselling Romance Novelist Johanna Lindsey dies at 67

Though she passed away at the end of October after a long battle with lung cancer, Ms. Lindsey's family didn't share the news until just before the New Year.

I was heartbroken to hear about the passing of this wonderful, talented, and legendary romance author.😒 If you've never read her books, you don't know what you're missing! Gentle Rogue . . . Savage Thunder . . . A Loving Scoundrel . . . to name only a few brightly shining jewels from her collection. It almost literally doesn't get any better, and they will always, always have an honored place on my Keeper Shelf. πŸ“šβ€οΈ

And I was lucky enough . . . privileged enough . . . to exchange correspondence with her for several years when I first began writing, and then to meet her in person and get a handful of my copies of her books autographed during the Romance Writers of America conference in Oahu, Hawaii, in 1993. Who knew that it would end up being such bittersweet memory?

Rest In Peace, Johanna. πŸ™  You brought thousands of hours of enjoyment to readers during your life, and thankfully your books will continue to do so long into the future. πŸ’ž
