February: 30 Years of Series 2

Can you believe it's been 30 years since Series 2 first aired?

Friday at 9pm on 21st February 1986 saw series 2, episode 1, 'Return of the Seven (Part 1)' burst onto our screens when seven familiar faces reunited to give us a second helping of comedy / drama gold. And who would predict that this series would go on to be the most watched ever peaking with over 16 million viewers during episode 8, 'Marjorie Doesn't Live Here Anymore'?

April: Sunday For Sammy

A minute’s rapturous applause and a standing ovation started proceedings at this year’s sell-out Sunday for Sammy gala with both matinee and evening audiences showing appreciation and admiration for north east legend Brendan Healy who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Brendan’s character will be best known to Auf Wiedersehen, Pet fans as Andy, an avid football supporter who mistakenly assisted a drunken Oz (Jimmy Nail) onto a chartered flight back to Newcastle following a Sunderland vs Liege game in Belgium (series 1, episode 3).

June: Sunday For Sammy 2016

Sunday the 12th June saw the official Sunday for Sammy 2016 DVD Preview launched at a private viewing where cast came together to watch a truly wonderful performance recorded back in February at Newcastle’s City Hall.

Two sell out performances featured Northern comedy in abundance and an array of fine live music plus a two-part special Auf Wiedersehen, Pet sketch entitled ‘Helen and the Geordies’ – a hilarious comedy take on ‘Helen of Troy’ - penned by the shows original writers Ian Le Frenais and Dick Clement.

June: D-HB….

Fans will remember Wayne’s cherished red BMW was a little present to himself after working 6 months in the ‘Arctic Circle’ in Series 2, Episode 7. Having ‘inadvertently overlooked’ import duty, his pride and joy was seized by Customs and Excise – thanks to Arthur ‘Tiger’ Pringle – resulting in Oz enjoying an afternoon of passion in a beautifully ironic twist of fate! (Ed. we knew there was a reason Stan Hey joined the writing team!!)

Whilst Wayne’s BMW is believed to have long since gone, the front number plate was retained by its owner as a souvenir.

October: From The Archives....

In 2002 Auf Wiedersehen, Pet returned for a third series but not before the press got hold of our lads on location in Arizona! This brand new series came 16 years after Series 2 and had many at the BBC on tenterhooks. Would it be a success and could we equal what we did in the 80’s? Thankfully it was hitting 12 million viewers at it's peak. Times reporter Stephen Hobbs meets many of the lads on location in the Arizona desert. Stephen also catches up with Auf Wiedersehen, Pet creator Franc Roddam and talks with writer Ian la Frenais about returning some 16 years on.

November: 33 Years Of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet

On the 11th November 1983, Neville Hope spoke those immortal words loved by millions of fans around the world. Who'd have thought 33 years on, we'd still be following the Magnificent 7 and enjoying televisions number 1 comedy drama of all time?

Over the past 33 years, we've been on a wonderful journey with the boys spanning 40 episodes plus two specials. From Düsseldorf to Marbella to Havana and Bangkok, these boys have been through thick and thin and we still love them dearly.

We’ve put together something special! Above, is a never before released picture of the Cast & Crew on the BECO Building Site film set at Elstree Studios, Borehamwood on the day filming wrapped! The eagle-eyed fan might spot Christopher Fairbank on crutches?! That’s right, Christopher managed to brake his leg prior to filming the 13th and final episode of series 1; ‘When the Boat Goes Out’. Watch closely, and you’ll notice Christopher manages to hide his injury well; in one scene, an inebriated Moxey is carried home to Hut B by Bomber with his plaster cast ingeniously concealed behind his jacket.
