Not all Heroes Wear Capes!
East Hartford, CT, Scout Cody Keen from Putnam, CT saved family members and helped others an escape an apartment fire this week. Cody (16) smelled smoke and heard yelling coming from his apartment building. He acted calmly but quickly and worked to get his mother and sister out of the house. He helped his Aunt who uses a walker down the stairs while the building was on fire. Then he worked to help neighbors evacuate the apartment building. The fire which started in the apartments laundry area could have been a serious structure fire. Putnam Fire Chief said “We are constantly teaching the public on fire safety and how to react, how to stay calm and how to get to safety and Cody did a super job. He stayed calm, he didn’t panic and he got everyone out safe.” With the help of Cody's actions we are happy to report no one was injured in what could have been a more serious incident.
Cody's local troop decided to hold an event to celebrate Cody’s actions and they were joined by three local fire departments who surprised and congratulated him. We are proud of Cody and his Scouting family in Putnam for their efforts. Cody is currently being nominated for a Scouting heroism award. Well done and congratulations to Cody.
