Reading can be considered an art form where a book can come alive in our hands, through our ears and our eyes. Stories created through a novel, a play or a poem can influence how we see the world, help us understand others and provide new meaning to our life – just like looking at a beautiful piece of art.
Prior to the pandemic, Hillsboro libraries had many artists showcase work in our gallery spaces. For summer reading this year, we have been collecting the work of teen artists to display during the month of August. We hope to add color to your world this summer through reading or art or one of our art-inspired events.
Ever since humans have been making marks, the subject of art and artists has been a rich source of inspiration for writers. This booklist spotlights just a few of these great reads featuring artist characters and authors taken from a wide array of genres, from classic works of horror to contemporary works of literary fiction.
