A vessel in the Gulf of Guinea reported an incident involving three armed individuals who boarded the ship. Upon discovery, the intruders departed the vessel.
A boat was detected on radar approximately 1NM from the vessel, shadowing it for 45 minutes before leaving the vicinity. The crew and vessel reportedly remained unharmed throughout the incident.
This is the first reported incident in this area this year, however, two similar incidents were reported to have occurred within 24 hours of each other in the same area on 21 December 2024. In the most recent incident, six unauthorized individuals boarded a vessel, while the crew took refuge in the citadel.
Vessels are advised to keep well clear of the area if possible and exercise extreme caution, remain vigilant, retain an enhanced local surveillance, maintain strict Anti-Piracy Watch, and apply BMP WA procedures.
