Do you recognize this view to the sky? It's from the dome at Germany's Reichstag in Berlin--a classical feature that harkens back to the original dome. But its transparency symbolizes a renewed post-reunification commitment to an important virtue of democratic government.
If you want to walk inside the dome--or, even better, get a tour of the building itself--you'll need to plan ahead. Way ahead.
The same holds true for many other special and memorable attractions, from live performance to historic spaces to blockbuster art exhibitions.
Perhaps it's an event you read about in a magazine or an obscure museum with a particular collection that's only open by appointment. Or an opera in a European capital with a fabulous singer you've never managed to hear in person.
My clients know that I specialize creating custom itineraries, for individuals or small groups, focusing on arts, culture, and history. The goal is for each trip to be memorable and special to the person experiencing it.
Now that we can look ahead with more certainty, I wanted to share some outstanding nuggets for next year:
• A rare production of La Gioconda at La Scala in Milan, starring Sonya Yoncheva and Erwin Schrott
• A Mahler festival in Leipzig featuring some of Europe's top orchestras
• Helsinki's Kiasma (contemporary art) will reopen after renovations
• The Broadway revival of 1776, with Diane Paulus directing an all-female cast
• The long-awaited opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum on the Giza Plateau
• A specially curated trip to Paris and northern France focusing on Impressionist masters and their strong attachment to Normandy, featuring Louisiana artist Anne Cicero as guest co-host
Whether you are inspired by a specific event or simply by an abiding interest, it pays to plan ahead if you hope to pursue your avocations as you travel the world. And I love enabling my clients to do just that!
I'm off to Europe for two weeks and will report back on my experiences in our private Mon Voyage Facebook group. If you're not already a member, I invite you to join the discussion.
And if that last item above (the French art exploration) piques your interest, please drop in for our webinar discussing that trip Tuesday evening, August 10th.
