Heir of the Fae - New Release!

Dragon's Gift: The Dark Fae Book 2

Our fae courts are at war, yet we're still fated.

My fated mate is the Seelie Fae king. He’s powerful, dangerous, and sexy as hell. Except, I don’t want a fated mate. Especially since he thinks I'm a lying snake. Turns out I’m Unseelie, and our courts are at war.

When my new Unseelie magic goes haywire and I nearly destroy my city, I can’t fix it alone. The only person with strong enough magic is the king. Which means I have to beg my mate for help. I’d rather chew off my own leg, but that won’t save Magic’s Bend.

As we work to save my city from falling into the center of the earth, the danger is greater than we’d realized. To find answers, we must risk a visit to the homeland that rejected me—the Unseelie Court. There, I must master my magic, or all is lost. In a place fraught with death and danger, we have only each other. And I don’t know if that will be enough.

Chapter Twelve

“You want my pack to help you crash into the Blood Moon bar and steal from Silas?” Shank stood in Asher’s living room, his arms crossed and a scowl on his face. The rest of his pack fanned out behind him, and Asher looked like he wasn’t enjoying the werewolves taking over his loft.

Oops.

But it was midnight and we only had two hours to plan this bitch and execute, so I didn’t feel that bad.

“Correct.” I tried not to let my voice squeak.

His head swiveled to Asher, “And if I do, you will bring me back to life if I die. This… skull thing will help you do that?”

Asher pinned me with a deadly glare and then gave a nervous laugh. “There are some finer details but yeah.”

“What kind of details?” Shank growled.

Asher swallowed hard. “I can’t put a werewolf soul in a human body… without repercussions. At the time of your demise, if your body is no longer intact, you would need a willing sacrifice in your pack to take over their body.”

He looked back at his pack and a tall man with shaggy red hair nodded.

“That won’t be a problem.” The alpha told him.

Damn just like that.

Wait, how was Asher going to put my supposedly fae soul into a human body? I decided to tuck that question away for later since I probably wouldn’t like the answer.

“If the day comes that I die, and you do not follow through on your word, I will instruct my wolves to peel your skin from your body and feed your bones to an ogre. Do you understand?” He towered over Asher.

Asher’s face flashed annoyance but he quickly nodded. “Understood. You have my word.”

Shit, Asher was going to be so mad at me.

Shank rolled out his neck and faced me. “Two AM?”

I nodded nervously. “Two AM is when the swap will take place. The fae will be involved.”

I thought it fair to warn him he was messing with some of the most powerful creatures in the magical world. The fae were so secretive they rarely left the protections of fae city to come into our part of world, and when they did… bad things happened and people got hurt. The last time I saw a fae there had been a handful of bodies left behind. They were not just healers. I mean….I wasn’t. We weren’t.

Shit, I really needed to find a therapist when I had the time... and money.

Shank shrugged. “I’ll bring my girlfriend in on the job.”

That’s right she was fae! “Okay cool, so let’s do a run through of how it will go down and—”

“No run through. We will meet you at Blood Moon at 1:45 am. I’m hungry.” He turned and walked out, bringing his pack with him.

What. The. Hell.

When I heard the front door slam, I spun to find Asher inches from my face and seething. “Woman, the list of how many times you owe me is so long you might as well move in next door because you will never be done doing favors for me.”

Maybe it was the way his muscular chest was all puffed up or his pouty bottom lip stuck out in anger, but when I heard ‘favor’ I just thought of sexual favors. Shaking my head to clear those dirty thought, I nodded. “Lifetime of favors. Got it.”

Not sexual, normal ones. With clothes on. Unless he wanted some kind of friend with benefits thing, which I wouldn’t be totally against right now.

“I’ve owned my bar for five years now and I’ve never called in sick. Ever.” He was looking at me incredulously like I was some kind of Siren who had lured him to his death.

I winced. “Thanks?”

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “How bad did this Silas guy treat you? What level of revenge are you wanting? Because I have an idea.”

I grinned. Jackpot baby. Whatever his idea was, I needed it.

“I’m ninety percent sure he ordered my death just so he could steal my resurrection skull. And he took Nimsy to the pound basically the second I died.”

Asher looked unimpressed, “Did he beat you? Anything else?”

I put a hand on my hip. “Every time we had sex I had to fake it because he wasn’t really paying attention to me, if you know what I mean.”

Asher grinned letting his eyes rake over my body. “Well when you put it that way, the guy deserves to be tortured.”

Something deep in my soul warmed and I squirmed. “Agreed, so what’s your idea?”

The necromancer sighed, “There is a temporary spell I can do that will make you appear solid and alive again in your previous form. It only lasts about thirty minutes.”

My eyes bugged and Asher continued.

“You could drink the potion right before we raid the place and scare the shit out of him. Let him know it was you who stole the skull from him. Once you get your new body he won’t be able to find you, so it’s now or never.”

Yes! “Ohmygod please! I need that potion.”

His eyes hooded, and again his gaze swept over me. “Well if you need it. I aim to please.”

Was he flirting with me? Because I really really hoped he was but I was half dead and couldn’t tell. One minute he was acting like he wanted to call the reaper to collect me and the next he looked like he might be figuring out how to seduce a ghost.

“He’s flirting.” Nimsy confirmed.

His words didn’t deter Asher, they only seemed to spur him on. The necromancer just grinned. “I’ll be in my office brewing!”

With that he left me to my very confused and dirty thoughts.

***

It was 1:43 AM and I was hanging onto Asher’s waist as he pulled into a parking spot down the street from the Blood Moon. I was still semi spectral and hadn’t taken the potion yet, but I couldn’t wait to see the look on Silas’ face when I kicked him in the balls.

What would I say? I’m back from the dead, bitch. Yeah, that was good.

“Right on time.” Asher announced as we dismounted the bike.

I’d begged Nimsy to stay at home, told him he’d only get in the way of a big shakedown like this and possibly become werewolf food, but he would have nothing of it.

He leapt out of the saddle bag now, chest held high and eyes bright with the anticipation of ass kicking. I tried to remember a time when I didn’t have Nimsy at my side. When I’d been about five years old, he’d just showed up on my stoop, a tiny black kitten. It took no convincing from my crazy aunt to have a black cat. She was cool like that.

“I’ve been holding my bladder all night. Just point me in the direction of Silas’ once we get inside and I’ll go to work.”

I grinned. “Thanks, Nim.”

Nimsy… rolled his eyes, which I didn’t think possible. “It’s Beast.”

I shrugged. “Sorry bud I don’t think that’s going to .”

He gave a long suffering sigh, “Fine. I’ll just accept my fate then. Nimsy forever with no say.”

Asher was looking between the two of us like we were petulant children. “If you’re done now, we can get to business.” He held out the green swirling vial and a thrill rushed through me.

“We’re done!” I reached for the vial and my semi solid fingers could barely grasp it.

“Step back.” Asher instructed, and I flattened myself against the brick wall as Nimsy hid behind Asher.

“Ready?” He asked, holding the vial.

I nodded. To be alive again, even for thirty minutes, was a gift I couldn’t conceive of right now. He threw the vial at my feet with a smash and I was engulfed in green smoke in no time. A tingle worked its way up my legs and I shivered as that tingle turned to a slightly uncomfortable warmth. Suddenly a popping sound rang out and nausea rolled into me before the smoke cleared.

“Holy shit!” Nimsy darted out from behind Asher and weaved in and out of my legs, rubbing against me.

I swallowed hard, reached down to pet him. The moment my fingers touched his soft fur a sob formed in my throat and Nimsy let out a deep purr. “Get that one spot I like.” He pushed his ear into my hand and I rubbed the delicate spot under his neck.

I was alive. Petting my cat. Breathing.

I wanted this again, forever. I wanted this so bad I could taste it. I had to get that resurrection skull, I had to be alive again.

Looking up I met Asher’s gaze. “Thank you.”

He nodded. “You’re not really alive. No blood or bones, more of a grand sensory illusion, but the soul suckers can still get you, so be careful.”

I nodded, still rubbing Nimsy who seemed to have been lulled into a mild coma.

“Right on time.” Asher called out and I stood, turning to see Shank and twenty large men, joined by three fierce looking females. One of the females was fae. I could tell by the way she walked, the way her hair looked like moonlight lived inside of it, and of course by the pointed ears. The fae had always terrified me. Elemental powers, healing powers, god knows what else. I probably should have paid more attention when my aunt spoke about them. This one looked fiercer than most. She walked right up to me and cocked her head to the side.

“Where have I seen you before?” Her voice was like running water and I felt a bit entranced.

“I… donno.”

Her brow furrowed. “I know your face.”

I know your face. That was utterly creepy. Nimsy and I shared a skeptical look.

“You’re alive now?” Shank observed.

Asher shook his head. “Simple illusion spell, wears off in thirty minutes, so we should get cracking.”

Shank seemed to accept this. “The fae are inbound with the skull. My Lilura here has a contact on the inside.” He pointed to the fierce female, who must be his girlfriend.

“And you don’t mind… betraying your people?” I asked. Dammit
I was curious by nature.

Lilura pinned her purple eyes on me. “These people tonight, are not my people. Anyone who pledges allegiance to King Vossen is not my people.” Her eyes turned a stormy grey and I backed up a little.

“The fae are torn right now. There is a political issue within their royalty.” Shank informed me.

I looked at the ground. “I didn’t know. Sorry.” But my mind spun with thoughts of what was to come.

“So what’s the plan?” Asher asked, looking left and right as more and more vampires hurried down the street and into the front doors of the famous club.

Shank peeled off his shirt, exposing his insanely in shape abs and chest. Lilura caught me looking and I flicked my eyes up to the sky. “My wolves will shift, we’ll crash through every window in this place and cause a panic. You and your lady waltz in and steal the skull and then we retreat. If I accidently kill Silas in the scuffle, oh well.” He grinned.

Damn my ex had rubbed a lot of people wrong.

“She’s not my lady.” Asher blushed.

Shank smirked. “Sure. I’d go to these great lengths for any old broad too.”

The men behind him chuckled and even Lilura was smirking.

Dammit, freaking awkward

Asher rolled his eyes. “Fine, let’s just do this.”

Just then, a limo rolled down the street and stopped in front of the club. We collectively shrank back into the shadows as two very tall and willowy fae stepped out of the car with a briefcase.

Something in my chest tingled, that beacon that led me to most of my magical items. “It’s here. I feel it.”

The resurrection skull.

Lilura raised one eyebrow at me. “You feel it? That’s not normal.”

Asher placed a warm possessive hand on my shoulder. “She’s not normal. We’ve established that. Let’s roll.”

And with that, two dozen shifters started to get naked.
