DID YOU KNOW?

I recall vividly as kid back in 1968 I almost drowned.

Dad had taken our family of four to north Africa - Tunisia - for a two week vacation.

We left our hotel room and headed for the beach. A young lad strolled by, eager to sell us his hot sugared donuts wrapped in parchment paper! They looked and smelled delicious.

After using hand gestures to ask for 'four' donuts, he gave me the donuts and I handed over (more than enough) money. He didn't have the change (right then and there) and (no doubt) he tried to tell me he'd be right back.

What did little eight-year-old me do?

I ran off into the waves, crying my eyes out. And almost drowned. I remember being pulled up to the surface by a gentle giant.

Not my most pleasant memory of donuts... but I DO have a great recipe to share with you of MY FAVE donuts in the whole state of Florida: At the bottom of this 'Inside Scoop' is a recipe for Apple Cider Donuts from Allrecipes!

I've eaten this kind of donut down in Ft Pierce, FL at the Farmer's Market. To be honest, it's the MAIN reason we go to the market (shame on me!) For the donuts and the fancy coffee!
