You may already know that taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication for an extended period of time isn't so good for your stomach. Did you know that early use of NSAIDs after injury may also delay or prevent the natural healing process? This is due to NSAIDs effect on the COX-2 enzyme (among other reasons). Inhibition of the COX-2 enzyme negatively impacts the pro-inflammatory and subsequent anti-inflammatory response necessary for the body to heal following injury.
The good news is that manual therapy has anti-inflammatory effects!

There are multiple benefits to hands-on manual therapy. This includes massage, joint mobilization, neural glides and the multiple skilled techniques that trained therapists use to mobilize tissue and joints. Here are some benefits:
Mechanical loading reduces proliferation of fibroblasts and cytokine production (Zein-Hammoud et al 2016)
