Dear

I want to communicate about expectations for the residential aspect of your training this term as I am aware that there has been some confusion. I am sorry for any frustration that this has caused.

The information contained below explains what is happening and how it affects you. Please read this email carefully.

This email is to be considered accurate as of today (15th September) and supersedes any previous correspondence.  We are aware of the need to continue to respond to the latest government guidance and I will write to you should anything change.

If you have further questions please be in touch with your Formation Group tutor in the first instance.

God Bless,
Russell

Residential Week

Residential Week is an integral part of our College life together, and we are making plans in line with government guidance to ensure we offer the excellent teaching that we always do.  Below lists the input by module.  A detailed timetable for each of the modules will be circulated closer to the time.

Level 4 modules
4FCW: Foundations in Christian Worship
4P/4PCW: Introduction to Preaching
Teaching via Zoom from Monday 2 – Friday 6 November.

Level 5 modules
5ELTMM: Exploring Leadership and Theology for Ministry and Mission
In-person teaching at The Hayes from Sunday 1  November - Friday 6 November.

*We are planning to meet in person, however this is subject to evolving government guidance and we are awaiting clarity about how the recent announcement will impact the opening of conference centres. We will communicate with you should there be any change.

Level 6 modules
6S: Sacramental Theology and Ministry
Teaching via Zoom from Monday 2 – Friday 6 November.

Friday 27 November - Sunday 29 November 2020

Residential Weekend

This will be our first Residential Weekend of the academic year, and we will meet in two locations, The Hayes and High Leigh, as follows:

High Leigh

All Year 1 Students *

(Year 1 of 2 and Year 1 of 3 pathways)

The Hayes

All Year 2 and Year 3 Students *

(Year 2 of 2, Year 2 of 3 and Year 3 of 3 pathways)

*Students on a 1 year pathway please speak to your formation group tutor to confirm which venue you are at for the the November Residential weekend

The input on these weekends will be formational, no accredited teaching will take place.  This promises to be a fantastic weekend for us to invest in community together.

You will receive further detailed communication before half time and a timetable will be circulated closer to the time.

Monday 30 November - Friday 4 December 2020

Teaching Week

Because the viability of being able to run Residential Weekends this term is uncertain (we cancelled the September weekend, and November & January weekends will have a formational focus), we are asking Ordinands to attend a Teaching Week (30 November - 4 December) to access the teaching they would have received at these weekends.  A timetable has been created that allows for a student to engage either in the daytime or evening via Zoom (all details below).  The important thing is to get 30 November - 4 December in your diary and speak with your Formation Group tutor if you foresee any problems.

How will Teaching Week run for ordinands?

We have created a schedule that seeks to allow for maximum flexibility to complete the teaching for these modules.

There will be two routes through this Teaching Week.

  • The day will run from 9.15am – 4pm each day.  In addition to lectures via Zoom, there will be time set aside to complete preparatory work. This teaching will take place with our independent students, Youth Ministry students and LLMs.
  • For ordinands who cannot attend during the day, the live lectures via Zoom will be repeated in the evening at 7pm - 9.15pm.

To ensure that adequate time is given to complete any preparatory work and reading, these will be available on the relevant module pages by half term.

Can I move between day and evening lectures?

Yes. For example, depending on your schedule, it might be that you can join the live lectures during the day on a Monday, Thursday and Friday, but need to attend the evening lectures on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Teaching Week Timetable

A simplified timetable is available on moodle here indicating what you can expect on each day.

Below is further explanation by level:

Level 4

(Modules: 4CH – Introduction to Church History; 4SD – Spirituality and Discipleship)

  • Teaching for these modules will run Monday – Friday during the daytime (between 9.15am-4pm) and will be repeated in the evening (7-9.15pm).

Level 5

(Modules: 5BC – Bible in Context; 5MMC – Developing Mission and Ministry in Context)

  • Teaching for 5BC will happen Monday – Thursday during the daytime (between 9.15am-4pm) and then be repeated in the evening (7-9.15pm).
  • Teaching for 5MMC will be delivered by pre-recorded lectures to be watched in advance. One live session will be held on Friday from 4.30 – 6.30pm.

Level 6

(Modules: 5IF – Christianity and Interfaith Engagement; 6NTC (G&A) - Further New Testament Text Study in Context; 6KCF – A Key Christian Figure; 6OTC – Further Old Testament Text Study in Context)

  • Teaching for these modules will run Monday – Thursday during the daytime (between 9.15am-4pm) and will be repeated in the evening (7-9.15pm).
    • For 5IF on Monday the lecturer will host an interfaith panel discussion, which cannot be repeated in the evening. This will be recorded and made available on Moodle.
  • There will be no accredited teaching on Friday. However, Stephanie Day will be running academic development sessions on writing dissertations, which ordinands would be welcome to attend.

Level 7

(Modules: 7RR – Research and Reflection)

  • Teaching for 7RR will happen on Monday during the day between 9.15am - 5pm. While this is the only teaching that you will be required to attend, you are welcome to audit any of the other modules happening Tuesday to Friday.
