Ever set out from your house with a destination in mind only to end up somewhere completely different? I had plenty of those moments when I was writing my Taylor Davis series. Snarky and adventurous, with tech that would make 007 drool, it's been a hit with the middle grade crowd. At one point, my hero had to complete some research at the London Archives. Instead of the quick, get-the-info-and-go scene I had imagined, Taylor ends up screeching through the city streets crammed in a three-wheeled car that smells of cats with an oversized guardian angel and an allergic tech-head, fleeing a shape-shifter in cahoots with an undead pirate. Yeah. Kids dig this stuff. If you know one who'd enjoy the wild galavants of Taylor and crew, Flame of Findul is free everywhere.
Anyway, while I was on this little detour, I had a second unexpected moment. I was browsing 3-wheel cars so I could accurately describe one and came across this image. It's not the model I chose for my story, but it did make it into a personal photo collage. See, only a month before my girl had surgery to remove a leg. A difficult few weeks, but I did have to appreciate the humor. (Bailey, btw, is now 11, cancer-free, and still faithfully keeping my feet warm while I write.)
