What's recently happened?

Preparatory work on the railway to allow us to build a bridge
Since Saturday (22 August), work has been underway to make changes to the overhead electric line on the railway. This will enable us to build a bridge over the railway which will form part of the new A419 northbound on-slip. Our contractor, Osborne, needs to do this work when the railway line is not operational which is why some of it needs to take place during the night. This work is due to finish this weekend.

Roadworks continuing well at White Hart
As reported in previous editions of the newsletter, work is currently taking place on the next phase of the White Hart roundabout improvements. This has included the installation of ducting and drainage systems to facilitate the £30m scheme.

This work is continuing as planned, with traffic flows being closely monitored. Over the past week, a new walkway has been erected for allotment holders, and a sealing layer has been put down before the next layer of stone is laid along Merlin Way. A new site compound has also been set up for the contractors and our delivery team on the A420 (on land opposite the police station) which is pictured below. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this compound is not currently open to the public, but in future, this will be where you can go to speak to the NEV Team and contractor if you have any questions or concerns. For now though, please feel free to contact them via email: whitehart.junction@osborne.co.uk or wwhj@swindon.gov.uk.

Should you need it, the emergency number for White Hart junction construction work and traffic management is 07899 751807.

    Planning updates

Great Stall East village - outline planning application granted
On Tuesday (25 Aug), our Planning Committee agreed to grant an outline planning application for the village of Great Stall East (identified on the above map), subject to the completion of the legal agreement to secure infrastructure.

The outline planning application includes up to 1,550 homes, two schools (including a 3,000 pupil secondary school that will serve the whole of the NEV), shops and a park and ride facility, making Great Stall East an important piece of the NEV jigsaw.

The village covers more than 86 hectares and a new junction will be built from the A420 to provide access.

The proposal seeks to retain some of the existing trees, to provide sports facilities with the secondary school and a range of play areas for children and young people throughout the development.

The plans include the provision of cycle and pedestrian routes, which will aim to encourage pupils to walk and cycle to school. The park and ride is essential to encourage the use of public transport and will provide connectivity to the town centre through the site to maximise bus services for the new community.

The precise details of design and layout will be approved later through the submission of reserved matters applications.

    Traffic calming in Wanborough

For the past few weeks, we've been asking for your thoughts on plans to install traffic calming measures in Wanborough.

The consultation is now closed and we would like to say a big thank you to everybody who took part.

The project team will now examine the consultation and respond to the feedback.

Further updates on the scheme will be communicated in due course.
