I've said this a few times in this newsletter, and I'm willing to bet a few of you are a little confused as to what I'm talking about.
First of all, if I'm being correct, I should be saying, "Happy Belated White Day"!
White Day, or νμ΄νΈλ°μ΄, is a "holiday" celebrated on March 1st in Korea, but also Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia and China.
If Valentines' Day is the holiday for women to give the man she likes a gift, White Day is the day for the man to reciprocate. It's actually a tradition that started in Japan, but has become more and more popular across eastern Asia.
Depending on who you speak to, the gift the man gives is two or three times the value of the one the woman gave, but money aside, the gifts are usually white: chocolate, cookies, sometimes jewelry or lingerie. Of course, this is one of these things that seem to grow over time, so this can also include gifts of flowers and... well... I saw a guy give his wife a new Kia, but that's one of the extremes!
