Share about your visit & get a gift!
|
|
Make plans to visit grandparents and/or elderly individuals in your family, neighbourhood, or parish community on Sunday, July 24, the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly. Consider taking with you some pastry, coffee, and/or flowers, and/or a handmade card with your child(ren). Ultimately, it’s about the gift of time and presence.
- Share a picture from your visit and receive a gift that you can give back! Submit your photo (with caption) by emailing it to communications@calgarydiocese.ca or use this Diocesan form, and receive a beautiful gift for your grandparent(s) or the elderly you visit!
- Curious about the gift? Sacred Artist Debbie Thompson Wilson (Sacred Arts Guild of Alberta member, and professional Illuminator) will be creating a beautiful illuminated print of Sts. Anne & St. Joachim for this special occasion. Limited number of prints will be given to those sharing photos from their visit on the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly.

Many are afflicted with dementia. Many more are left to care for those who have it. It’s important to talk about the struggles of caring for those whose faculty to remember is fading away. It’s okay to recognize that those left to care or live with them can often feel abandoned and burdened.
In this short video, Pamela D. Wilson, a caregiving expert, provides some simple tips on how we can adjust our expectations and attitudes so that we may be able to help our loved ones who have dementia.
If you feel alone in being entrusted with the burden of care, make sure you research programs and agencies out there to help you cope with the realities of caring for someone with dementia.

Consider this…
“Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake me when my strength is spent.” Psalm 71:9
The love and care that you give to the vulnerable will make them realize that in spite of their limitations, they are loved by God. Be inspired to accompany them in their needs.

TOGETHER IN ACTION (TIA) |
+ |
|
For over 10 years, the Together in Action goal has been set at $2 million. In 2021, the TIA goal was reduced by 30% due to the pandemic, bringing it to $1.4 million.
The goal of this year's TIA is $2 million as we commit to raise $600,000 each year over the next 5 years for the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund, as our contribution to the $30-Million National Financial Pledge of the Bishops of Canada. Together as the Diocese, we unite our efforts in working with the Indigenous Peoples in the pursuit of truth, justice, healing, and reconciliation.
