Graham Downs :: Monthly Newsletter

October 2019

Hi {$name|default:"there"},

How are you doing?

It is hot here. It's also the last quarter of 2019, the last quarter of the second decade of the 21st century (let that sink in a moment), and Christmas is on the way. And I'm in a silly mood!

Lots of stuff's been happening. That audiobook I told you about had some hiccoughs, but it's still a possibility, and I started writing a fantasy story... but it just wouldn't come, so I switched to a South African horror story that's been rattling around in my head for at least five years now.

Oh, and I've read another six books since the last time my name graced your Inbox. Which isn't very much at all, by some people's standards, but I'm proud of it.

Before we dive into the news, I was reminded a few weeks ago that United States law requires me to disclose the fact that many of the links in this newsletter are "affiliate" links, which means I stand to earn a commission or other benefits if you click on some of them and take certain actions (like buying books or signing up for services).

Would You Like to Advertise in This Newsletter?

The "sponsored link" above is provided by a third-party advertising company called Admailr. They specialise in placing ads in people's email newsletters, and when people click on those ads, I earn a small commission.

Not everyone sees every ad. First, they're targeted to particular categories (I set mine up to show things relating to books and entertainment), and they're also personalised based on what Admailr believes each person's preferences and habits are.

But if you run a business, and you'd like to expand your reach, why not sign up as an Admailr Advertiser and create your first campaign? Who knows—you might see your ad in next month's newsletter. Wouldn't that be cool?

Finances: September 2019

I just missed profit in September. I made a bit of money from advertising (both in this newsletter and on my website). And that MailerLite affiliate income is still coming in, which I'm thrilled about.

I also sold a copy of Heaven and Earth on Amazon's US store, and Scribd continues to perform well, because I had another reader read Memoirs of a Guardian Angel there.

Here are the figures. As always, I have converted them to South African Rands using the exchange rates at the time of this writing:

  • Income:   R   66.39
  • Expenses: R   69.00
  • Loss:     R    2.61

Earn Commission from my Books

Many online retailers also offer affiliate programmes, where you can earn a commission for getting people to buy books there. I use Amazon's, Smashwords', and Loot's affiliate programmes, but there are others you can look into.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, just reply to this mail and ask me how.

Featured Author

Pertunia Lehoka

This month's featured author is Pertunia Lehoka from Pretoria, South Africa.

Pertunia is a motivational speaker, relationship coach, entrepreneur... and author.

She's written two books (see below): Heart and Soul, and Providence.

You can get in touch with her by email at pertunia@lehokainc.co.za, or by visiting her Twitter or Facebook pages.

The emotional being is full of wounds, infected with extremely potent poison which in turn can be communicable to others we come in contact with. These wounds run deeper than anything we can ever imagine.

Declaring love to a love interest or accepting the declaration can be very frightening, as we always wonder if we would be safe in the company of these people. We then put up barriers of protection to keep others at bay. However, those barricades also keep us insise our shells and in perpetual misery, thereby restricting our freedom to experience God's magnitude in the form of love.

Love supersedes all other emotions we may feel and if its intensity is not experienced, we are inclined to feel vulnerable. This is why we rarely open up to our mates about our past or any scars we bear, which might have a bearing on our relationships and quality thereof.

This emotion requires total surrender and this book is about the importance of that surrender. It guides us through many relationship intricacies, while encouraging us to re-visit our childhood imprints that left gaping wounds which never received appropriate dressings. The idea is to allow ourselves to be free to love and to receive love freely.

A strange and powerful force ties the soul of a new-born baby girl Jewls, to that of a five year old boy Michael, whose best friend is the girl's brother. Raised as an only daughter to a very affluent family in Sandton, Johannesburg, Jewls is spoilt the moment she enters the world and is treated like a little princess by her family and loved ones. As she grows older, she becomes even more attached to Michael, becoming one another's confidantes and biggest supporters through life, protecting each other from any and everything.

Now having blossomed into a young, astute woman, Jewls sets out to become a brilliant young attorney, earning her Master's degree through a US university. Having never anticipated falling for a guy the very first day she set foot at the US university, she was taken aback by the strength of her own feelings and intensity of the love that awakens within her soul. It appeared as if the stars and planets had suddenly aligned to bring that particular suitor into her life.

Knowing deep in her heart that she desired to be with another man and possibly belonged with him, an avalanche of feelings characterize her stay in the US, leaving her wracked with conflict.
