Hello Friends-

"Welcome back to "The Cre8tive Life"- your weekly newsletter full of lifestyle tips, smiles, and musings.

As a bit of an empath and HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), I must admit that the weight of everything that we (as a collective nation, and world) have been going through has been quite draining to my spirit. I have wrestled back and forth in my mind on the best ways in which I can still "show up in the world" in an authentic way, and not crawl deep in an antisocial hermit hole to just get away from it all. I have also thought about the many moments and experiences in my life, the various community circles I am/have been apart of, and meaningful ways in which I can tie all that together.

When I came up with the concept of The Cre8tive Artisan, and the foundational principles of values I wanted to set, I always knew that the curating of authentic community experiences where people didn't have to feel like they needed to wear a mask was always at the root. I think that innate calling for me to create those moments truly stemmed from being in so many spaces where I felt like people (myself included) could not be and feel free to be their whole selves for fear of judgment. Whether those judgments were things like internal fears, societal pressures, generational dictates, and more...I felt like people needed to have access to spaces where magical community transformations could take place- where, people could look beyond the surface of "who they appear to be" by title or label, and connect deeply as human to human. That calling has been a thread for me within my life in a myriad of ways-- in my educational upbringing, various jobs that I have had, extracurricular activities, friendships, networking organizations, my love of travel, culture, and beyond. I have just always had a deep fascination about people and the human experience.

With that being said, I think that is one of the things that truly pains my heart about everything that is going on in the world. The fact that there is (and has always been) such a deeply rooted systemic lack of not allowing people to exist as full humans in the human experience. That reduction of people to "labels" has caused generational mistreatment leading to lack of opportunities, feelings of supremacy; and, far too often, not even allowing people the ability to "live." As an African American, the stress and emotionality that I have felt around this time has truly been a rollercoaster. I have sat in my thoughts, remembered past traumas, and thought about the blinders and defense mechanisms that I have had to build up over the years to protect my sanity as I worked to push forward in various aspects of my life. I have also heard and communed with the greater collective of community that have equally shared in this experience in their own varying ways. To be seen, and not thought of as fully human, can be soulfully depleting...

Anyway, these are just some of the thoughts that have been going through my head...I am going to continue to keep trying to pull everything together in a way to help build a better human community experience through whatever small way I can. It is my hope that something within my newsletters and service will be of help to you in some way-whether it's learning something new about another's experience, gaining new life tools, or meeting and engaging with someone outside of your typical comfort zone. It is my ultimate hope to be a catalyst of sparking change that will help to make the world better for all of us.

Random stories, pictures, video highlights, and other life musings can be found on my personal instagram page (@e101) and official brand page (@thecre8tiveartisan) throughout the week (when/if I end up posting anything).

My weekly (random) compilation of some of my favorite "cre8tive" things that I want to share:

  • FAVORITE WORD: Confabulate (verb): engage in conversation; talk.

  • ADVICE:¬†‚ÄúReal change requires real truth."

  • QUARANTINE RECOMMENDATION:¬†This week's share comes from one of my favorite content producers (and "friends/family" in my head), "The Ellises." Their little family brings me daily random joy as they provide a glimpse into their life of raising three young sons and also doing great things within their own careers. However, this powerfully moving episode that they shared of "Just Dadding While Black" illuminates the experiences and nuances of raising young African American boys in times like these- and having to have "that talk" that goes on in every African American household. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING THIS for those interested in opening their minds to a human experience that may be unfamiliar to their own.¬†

  • COOKERY MAGIC:¬†Are you looking for some new "fresh and healthy" food options to try out? Here are 37 Summer Salads that should get you on the right path.

  • LIFESTYLE TIP:¬†I have had several people reach out to me about getting some "helpful tools" in education and knowledge about this current movement of change we are aiming for within the realm of equality. This collection of 12 Anti-Racist Books Recommended by Educators and Activists is sure to¬†be super helpful in opening up dialogue for conversation and deeper awareness among both children and adults.

This week's challenge is a repeat from the last (because, the world could definitely use an extra does of this). Think of, and act upon, a way in which you can help make a difference in creating a better world for all.

I will be sharing the date for the next Cre8tive Connections event in next week's newsletter. I hope YOU will be able to join and participate!

I am also in the process of curating some virtual cultural community mixers-  as well as some other special event packages. If you have an extra 5 minutes to spare, please fill out the survey below (if you haven't already).

Thanks in advance for your time and feedback!

***Totally disregard this part of the newsletter if you have already done this.

Lastly, if you happen to have any future topic ideas, or come across any events I should know about, PLEASE feel free to send those along my way. I always LOVE discovering and learning about new things!

Have a great day, and be sure to take time to enjoy your life!
