While this bill presents itself as some form of modernized divorce law, it in fact means women suffer more financial burden after the divorce. This bill would make divorce worse for women while rewarding their wealthier ex-spouses.
This is especially harmful for women who spent their married lives as stay at home moms or homemakers. The pandemic has worsened this for mothers who either work remotely, taking care of their children, or have leave the work force entirely to tend to their children. This lowers the ability to recover after a divorce. It could result in a loss of income and loss of promotions.
