Few leaders recognise their own bad habits.
It’s no surprise.
Easier to observe others' habits.
Than it is to observe your own.
You can help by being a mirror.
Raising awareness of bad habits.
It starts with mastering observation.
Though it is rarely acknowledged, the ability to see accurately is a coach’s first skill. - Doug Lemov
Harder than it sounds.
It’s easy to infer rather than observe.
❌ You were angry. (Inference)
✅ You frowned and raised your voice. The other person took a step back. (Observation)
Get better at observing.
When ready, don’t compile a report.
Give feedback in the moment.
Offer:
🎁 I have an observation. Would you like to hear it?
Ask:
💬 What do you think I observed?
Only then share your own observations (if you need to)
Follow up:
👉 So what does that mean for you?
👉 Now, what will you do?
With awareness raised, now focus on how to break the bad habit.
