Innovative Tools Currently Available to Streamline Proposal Budget Development
As many MSU personnel continue to work remotely, DER wants to remind faculty of some great resources that can benefit faculty during the proposal (budget) development process. These tools are currently available for faculty to utilize. Please be sure to ask your current Research Administrator for more information regarding these resources.
KC Summary Budget Tool (made accessible for PI & editable by PI) - In the KC system, your DER Research Administrator is able to create a working draft budget which can be accessed and edited by the project PI. With access to the KC system, and using the summary tab, faculty can log into Kuali Coeus to make several adjustments to the draft budget to determine the best scenario for their project. They can shuffle dollars to help drill down or up to a target dollar goal. This tool enables faculty to utilize the system in place of spreadsheets. If you are interested, be sure to request this access from your Research Administrator.
KC Budget Development Using Screen Sharing - DER Research Administrators have many tools to help streamline service and make the proposal development process as efficient as possible. One tool to help make the budget development process efficient is screen sharing during scheduled one-on-one budget development sessions. This resource can be made available to the project PI to help identify costs associated in that draft budget and to help answer budget related questions throughout the budget development process. Viewing the budget development (live) with the Research Administrator may also help to reduce the number of draft budget scenarios. Feel free to ask for this resource when communicating with your Research Administrator.
If you have additional questions regarding either of these resources, or would like to submit ideas for new tools to help in the budget development process, please send an email to email@example.com.
Engineering Research Reactivation SharePoint
The Engineering Research Reactivation all-inclusive SharePoint page has helpful reopening resources, important processes, and documents that need to be completed and approved to "return to research". Please request access if prompted.
Where is my "LABORATORY PLAN FOR A SAFE RETURN" in the approval process?
You can see what step of the approval process your plan is on by looking under the “Engineering Research Reactivation” folders on the SharePoint site.
If the plan has been approved by the Department Chair, you can see if it has been sent to VPRI by clicking on “EGR ADR Review” > “At VPRI for Review”. If the plan is in the “At VPRI for Review” folder then it is currently being reviewed by VPRI.
To check to see if your plan has been completely approved by all required departments (DC, EGR Dean's Office, and VPRI), you can click on the “VPRI Final Approved Plans” folder. If your plan is in the “VPRI Final Approved Plans” folder then you approved to return to research. Monique Blackmer (firstname.lastname@example.org) will reach out to you.
In the past year, we've witnessed a remarkable feat of science and global collaboration that shows what is possible, but there's so much more to do. $55M Delta Tissue program aims to build a "tissue time machine" with the capability to predict the future state of tissues as a means of fighting disease. Finding Collaborators and Personalized Funding Alerts
If you have a project in mind and are in search of funding opportunities or collaborators from other units at MSU or beyond, you can use the MSU Scholars’ Faculty Insights
tool (requires MSU Net ID). Enter a term (such as “Coronavirus”) in the search box under Research Topic, and you’ll see a list of scholars at MSU who do work on the topic entered. Or, search nationally by clicking on the “Include National Data” checkbox. Click the “Funding” tab at the top for a list of open funding opportunities related to the search topic.
