Questions From A Confused Colour Consultant & My Answers

Here is a question I recently received from a confused colour consultant:

“I just find the categories so confusing. I’m still at the stage where I think people do more or less fit into one of the four seasons. I think if I were diagnosed as a ‘soft muted’ I wouldn’t trust that diagnosis. It’s too vague. I think some suit bright colours, say in the winter and spring palette, but at the end of the day they will suit one season better than the other. And this, ‘I’m a “soft” summer business. Really?? What is that? I’m really not a fan of this very ‘liberal’ colour analysis.

People come to you desperate to look their best and it’s like we’re advised to say, ‘just wear what you want’, because god forbid you tell them what they should wear. But isn’t that’s why they’re paying big bucks to see you? Because they’re clueless and want expert advice? I’m not sure why it’s such an issue to tell people what’s good for them. I think we’ve not only over-complicated the colour thing, but I too feel we’re trying to tiptoe around the clients too scared to advise for some reason”.
