$200,000 selling dyed yarn. Jake Kenyon started selling dyed yarn in 2019 and he's on track to make $200,000 in gross sales in 2021.

A lot of his recent revenue growth has to do with more people picking up knitting as a hobby (due to being stressed. stuck inside, or both), but even when he first started, there was an entire community for his craft.

And that's one of the keys to his growth:

"I posted on social media at least three to four times a week and spent every day networking and cultivating friendships in the knitting community on Instagram."

Marketing tactics like SEO can take months to show results, but direct networking can show results much faster.

Jake also found his own niche. With many other yarn dyers doing basic colors, Jake stood out by making unique, limited edition colorways. While this involved some risk, it paid off.

Creating an Amazon deal finder website with no-code tools and Github code and growing it to $3k/month in 3 months. Deal finder websites are nothing new so this was really cool to see.

Not only did the founder build the site in under 2 weeks, it's now generating almost completely passive income.

What's more interesting is to see how the founder marketed the tool so quickly. As mentioned above, SEO takes time, so active marketing, in the beginning, is necessary. 

Start with your network of friends and family, use subreddits, Twitter, post to Hacker News, Indie Hackers, reach out to bloggers, get the word out! If you do it right, it clearly works.

Speaking of savings, sometimes second-hand is the way to go. I've found some fantastic deals on Facebook Marketplace on furniture, a phone, and even an old skateboard rail (that sadly got stolen). Still, not everything that's listed is a good deal. Here are some tips and things to look out for.

🔮 Crypto: Crypto total market cap gained around $80 billion in the past week after Bitcoin and Ethereum both hit ATHs earlier in the week. 

Headlines:

• Coinbase launched a standalone wallet browser extension to compete with plugins like MetaMask and Phantom. So far it doesn't have great reviews.
• Coinbase also announced its own NFT marketplace called Coinbase NFT. CEO Brian Armstrong says he believes NFTs could be "as big or bigger than their cryptocurrency business".
• Last thing about Coinbase: they started testing a monthly subscription that would allow traders to pay fewer fees. Good for those who trade often. 
• Reddit to Tokenize karma points? (Cointelegraph)
• Discord CEO tweeted a sneak peek at potentially integrating Discord with MetaMask, a crypto and NFT wallet, but faced backlash from users and backpedaled on the idea. Interesting to see and proof NFTs have a ways to go before mainstream adoption.
• Quentin Tarantino gets into the NFT space (CNBC).

📈 Stocks: Major indexes ended in the negative this week after the US consumer price index showed inflation rates of 6.6% year over year, the highest since 1990. 

Keep in mind, the S&P 500 is still up over 25% for the year, so if you're invested, you're still beating inflation.

Headlines:

• Elon musk is selling 10% of his Tesla shares based on a Twitter poll. It's already caused Tesla stock to drop.

How to spot good crypto gaming projects. A quick few points of things to look for before investing:

1. The team has made a video game before and has experience. Making a game is hard and more expensive than most make it out to be.

2. They release gameplay or photos of gameplay early and expand on it as it develops... Not just cool-looking picture packages that they bought.

3. You can upgrade, collect more items, and get benefits in the game that make people want to keep hitting the play button
