“Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.”
James Baldwin
Reflection
I guess we are all familiar with messages like this in one form or another. And it's not just connected to our children. When we see others driving too fast, avoiding paying taxes or gaining benefits in other ways, it is so easy to do the same thing yourself. And we excuse and defend our behaviour with references to other people’s actions. It's so much easier to preach rather than to live our values.
Today's exercise
Think of an occasion when you did or said something contrary to your values. What needs did you try to meet through your action? Imagine that these needs already were fulfilled within you in the situation. Would you then have acted in the same way?
Tip of the day
Cute little film where babies imitate their fathers: Children imitate parents 😚😘 😘
