Youth4Music London

Youth4Music is coming to London! On Saturday, March 2 we’ll be holding our first ever Youth4Music event in London, Ontario. We invite youth under the age of 30 to join us on campus at King’s College for this free event, featuring a keynote speech by Katy Clark and music by Sarina Haggarty. We’re eager to connect with passionate youth and find out what’s going on in London’s musical communities. For more information and to register for the event click here.

Youth4Music Toronto Leadership Symposium

We are also excited to announce that our 2019 Toronto Leadership Symposium will take place on Saturday, March 23! Join us for a day of connection and discussion as we learn from and celebrate youth leaders who are actively using music to make a difference. This event is free for all youth under the age of 30, and will be a day of live music and inspiring speakers, including youth leaders from Conchordium, QUSMEA, and Youth Jam Canada. We hope to see you there!

NUFSICISUM Award

Nominations for the 2019 NUFSICISUM Youth Leadership Award are now open! We invite music teachers from coast to coast to coast to nominate an individual who has made a positive impact on their school or community through music. Five NUFSICISUM Award winners will be announced on May 6, 2019 via a live webcast from the National Arts Centre, as part of the nationwide Music Monday celebrations. Be sure to complete this nomination form by March 31, 2019 and follow the Coalition on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (@CoalitionCanada) for updates and to take part in our NUFSICISUM promotional contest.

Student Awards and Competitions

Alberta Music Education Foundation

The Alberta Music Education Foundation invites eligible music students to apply for the 2019 Student Recognition Awards. These awards “seek to recognize and assist deserving Alberta music students for excellence in music performance, and for utilizing their musical talents in active volunteer community service.” Students can apply in either the Music Performance or Community Service categories, with winners receiving a gift certificate of $500 towards the cost of music lessons, music school tuition, or musical equipment/books. Applications are due March 31, 2019. Click here for more information or to apply online.

Vancouver Chamber Choir

Young composers between the ages of 8-22 are encouraged to submit compositions in either SATB, SAB, or SSA voicings for the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s 14th Biennial Young Composers’ Competition. Finalists will have their compositions performed at the Youth & Music 2019 concert in May, and first and second place winners will receive a cash prize. Strings Extravaganza

On Sunday, March 3 the Yukon Registered Music Teachers’ Association presents a Strings Extravaganza! Join the Baroque Strings Collective, Fiddleheads, Suzuki Strings, and the Whitehorse String Ensemble for an afternoon of Bach, Handel, Mozart, and more, culminating in a joint performance of 100 string players. Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions

Are you a musician from Kingston, Ontario looking for more hands-on music education experience? Consider applying for a volunteer position with Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions. Blue Canoe is currently seeking a music instructor for their March Break Camp, from March 11-15. For more information or to submit your application please contact Blue Canoe’s Education Coordinator.
