To understand deep work, let's first look at its antithesis, shallow work.
❌ Shallow work is when we work distracted, interrupted, switching tasks and multi-tasking.
😬 We feel like we’ve worked a lot, but little gets done.
🌪 Shallow work is the work that happens when you finish the day without achieving much. You start a project, but you have 15 tabs open, are responding to instant messages, emails, and phone notifications as they come in.
🏠 If this hits too close to home, it is because shallow work is norm for most of us.
🔎 Deep work is the opposite. Deep work is being all-in on a task for a block of time, which allows you to tap into creativity and quality. Deep work is where the magic of good, focused work happens.
✖ Being able to do deep work can be hard. And for many it is. To do deep work we have to not only have a mindset, a will, an intention to do it, we must work to go against some of our programming.
