Dear Friend!
How are you? I'm getting more round around the middle and wrinkly like a raisin. (Se-xy na ka.)
Did you know that celebrating birthdays in Thailand (and Cambodia) is a relatively new thing? so are bachelor and bachelorette parties. What a time to be growing up, eh? Your parents are from a different generation, but you want a Happy Birthday just like you've seen all the other people do on Netflix.
Reminds me of my childhood, so I can relate, but Mom did manage to at least buy us birthday cakes. We went to Dee Lite Bakery in Pearlridge to order or pick up a cake, and afterwards she'd always praise their frosting -- not too sweet. She didn't gift wrap, not really, unless you count, "Hey kid, let's go shopping and you pick out what you want."
I do remember having a party when I was twelve or thirteen. My friends Janet and Alison came over while the adults barbecued. I got a blue bicycle with the banana seat.
Starting at the top of the hill, I tried to race my brother, but immediately fell as soon as I yelled, "GO!" destroying both my knees and pride on the asphalt.
So, yeah, birthdays.
